Honestly, I didn't even think manga when I saw that question. The first thing that popped into my head was The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. It was easy to read, and the symbolism wasn't wholly bizarre--it's really a book about nothing. And I sort of "forgot" to give my copy back to my teacher when we were done with it *looks innocent*
Second place goes to John Steinback's Of Mice and Men. I finished that book the day I got it. Also partial to Harry Potter, but I'm not sure if that counts as a novel.
