Operation "GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND MAKE SOMETHING OF MYSELF" has passed phase two.

Which is the summer term - Biology and Intermediate Algebra. I ultimately need to take Survey of Calculus, but when I started, it had been a solid decade since I was in a math class, so I decided to start with the basics and work my way up.

But anyway, I finished my classes on Monday. I've already got my final grade for Biology - got a solid middle-range A, which is good enough for me. The last two parts of my Algebra grade haven't been posted yet, but considering I got a solid A on the last test AND I know I aced the homework portion, I have no doubts that I got an A there as well.

So yes! Operation "GO BACK TO SCHOOL AND MAKE SOMETHING OF MYSELF" is still standing at a 4.0 GPA. Hopefully, this will carry through the coming year, in which I will be taking Chemistry I and II, and hopefully that Calculus class in the spring.

After that, I will have one more year before I'm ready to go for it.

WISH ME LUCK!

...and also please to be praying for me ^^;;

comments

In the last week, I ordered volumes 1-4 of Soul Eater, and have received three of those. Volume 2 is on backorder, and won't be coming out for probably another couple of weeks.

I also found both Trigun and Cowboy Bebop online, complete series for fairly cheap. So I got them too.

When everything is here, I will watch ALL THE THINGS.

While I wait, I'm enjoying Sherlock, the BBC's three-episode miniseries.
I have so much stuff to post about from the last few days--work, gaming, Dad's sixty-first birthday and all the accompanying cake. But all I can really think about right now are the following as I remind myself that I should be asleep.

1) One of my fics, "A Perfect Act," should be updated within the next couple days, and the last chapter should go up on Lurker Day. A couple days ago, I was whining at magicbulletgirl that the plunnies were demanding a sequel. Well, Bex? IT'S GOTTEN WORSE. Now they're demanding a part three, and have most of the plot figured out already. Haaaaaaaalp ;o;

2) Ace Attorney jokes make everything awesome.

3) I am hereby sneaking up behind everyone on my LJ and giving them a big platonic smooch of luff ♥

4) kaitodoushi linked me to this site, and I gave it a whirl. Comment or ping me if you see this entry. I gots a question for you ^_^

Yesterday was a day of odd happenings. Nothing big, but more that a few seemingly strange-ish things all happened on the same day.

Came upstairs yesterday to find the front door wide open, and was mildly paranoid until I peeked around and found that there was no one in there. At work, I glanced at the clock and then at my watch, and found that my watch was half an hour behind. I reset it, and it is still perfectly on time, so I don't think it's the battery.

Found out that Dad had started to leave out the front door yesterday morning, but then noticed that Mom had left the garage door open, and wound up leaving out the garage to close it...while forgetting that the front door was open ^^;; Still no explanation for the watch, though.

<strike>...I swear there was something else weird that happened, but I can't think of what it was.</strike> ETA: I remembered! The Homecoming King from my class in high school went and got himself arrested. I am...actually sort of surprised o.O

NOTE TO SELF: Get on Skype more often.

I'm debating on the pros and cons of going out to my storage unit and retrieving my TV and DVD player and putting them on my dresser. My stupid computer freezes and crashes if I have a non-YouTube video playing for more than, oh, thirty seconds. Sometimes it'll play for hours before it locks up, and sometimes it will take only twenty minutes.

The biggest issue in this decision at the moment is, of course, that I need to clean my dresser off so I'd have a potential place to put it. Which I'm actually going to do after I finish typing this entry.

...which I think is right now.

comments

I think I might have a new favorite Mythbusters myth: phone book friction.

I am learning to knit in the round.

We're getting our new cell phones on Friday. We went and looked yesterday at models, and we think we know which one we're getting. I think they're pretty neat, though it might take a little bit of time to get used to the new design. It's a double flip phone, suitable for the bothering of fun peoples via text message, yay!

My sister will be moving home on Friday--which is why we're waiting until then to get the new phones. We got her stuff out of her dorm room yesterday. Then we had lunch, and hauled a bunch of stuff all over the place and wound up running about six more errands than we had originally planned on. But it's cool~

And here's a story from the family files, as told to me by my mother (the aunt in question is her sister).

When my aunt and uncle wanted to get married, there was a slight problem. Not only was my uncle the son of a Protestant minister, but he was planning on becoming a minister himself. My mom's family is Catholic, though they did approve of the marriage. This was at a time when there were actually town meetings in the area over whether or not the Catholic children and the non-Catholic children should be allowed to attend the same school.

The priest they spoke to first told them that Uncle would have to agree to convert to Catholicism. No dice. Then he said that Uncle would have to sign a paper saying he would raise the children Catholic. Again, Uncle would not agree. The priest refused to marry them.

So my grandparents asked what it would take, and the priest said that they would need a signed statement from the archbishop of the diocese giving permission to marry them. But, the priest added, this particular archbishop never gave those out. My grandparents asked if the priest would marry them, no strings attached, if they got this piece of paper, and the priest said yes.

...what the priest didn't know was that Grandma's first cousin was the private secretary to the archbishop in question.

Grandma called her cousin and asked for a favor, and her cousin apparently took care of it because my aunt and uncle have been married for a very long time.

I just had to share that story because it makes me laugh.

comments

I feel like I have a ton to update here, but I can't actually think of anything meaningful right now. But I wanted to update anyway. So I am.

kaitodoushi is off to Greece. May she have fun and bring back many pictures and tell them all to me some afternoon when I kidnap her for lunch and storytime! :D *blows long-distance smooches*

Work continues to go along. I got a bit miffed at one of the other techs yesterday for being a wee bit patronizing (along the lines of "I know you're trying to help, but you shouldn't do that until [Other Tech] has time to show you" followed by a look of surprise when I told her that [Pharmacist] had already shown me), but otherwise I'm enjoying it. I like most of the people, and some of them are starting to let me do stuff that does not consist of standing around waiting for someone to approach the register. And today's nine hours flew by :D

...plus, it's really awesome hearing your manager and co-worker praise you to high heavens to the store's general manager~ I then offered to leave the room so they could say what they really thought, and everyone laughed ^____^

I'm finally getting off my duff and wasting time, whee! And by wasting, I mean I'm finally getting some stuff organized on InsaneJournal. Figure if I've got the accounts, I might as well use them. Same goes for Dreamwidth and the Inksome account I'd forgotten I had XD

We're going to go move my sister out of her dorm room tomorrow--taking everything she can't live without for a week. I am rather displeased about sacrificing my day off to go help with this (and no, I did not get a choice/say in the matter). But eh, I'm getting lunch out of the deal. Silver lining, I suppose.

And finally, I was eating ice cream and it went down my cleavage. The ice cream tried to cop a feel. I HAVE BEEN VIOLATED BY TASTY FROZEN TREATS! *wails and uses the doll to show the court where the ice cream touched me*

Newest on candyfics:
~ To Stop the Killing (Fatal Frame)
~ Sole Survivor (Rule of Rose)
~ Stolen Away (Scratches fic for 100fandomhell)

comments

I'm recalling what it is that I really don't like about this time of year. Oh, there are many things I do enjoy: warmer weather, spring rain, garage sales, and other things like that. Those are awesome and win. But there are things that I hate about this time of year. And the big one is the fact that spiders (and other assorted buggies, but mostly spiders) seem to enjoy crawling into the downstairs bathroom. Which is my bathroom.

I don't mind spiders so much if they're, say, on the ceiling or under the bed or somewhere that does not require me to have to get to close to them. As long as they stay there, we are cool. But when I open the curtain to hop into my bathtub to take a shower, and there's a spider (usually one as big as my thumb, for some reason) sitting on the bottom of the bathtub? Then I do not want.

...although yesterday there were three bugs in there. An extremely large spider, and two of those little millipede-like...things that curl up into a little ball if you so much as breathe anywhere near 'em. Dunno exactly what they're called, but let it be known that I hate those things.

I found a Let's Play runthrough of Commander Keen online! I used to play that game all the time back in the good ol' days of DOS! It never failed to crack us up when the mom was all, "What's this one-eyed green thing doing in your room??" *drifts away on a cloud of nostalgia*

On a semi-related note, a couple of small and obscure fandoms are trying to merrily devour my brain. I'm told it tastes good with barbeque sauce. The worst part is that I don't really have any well-formed ideas for them, per se. But as usual, we'll see where it all goes.

Work in three hours, whoo~

New on candyfics:
~ The Real You (Kaito/Aoko, DC/MK)
~ Hold It (Azumanga Daioh)

comments
