This earns a chuckle.
My coop got this today--teacher humor can be so much fun sometimes! Almost as good as music humor :3
SCHOOL ANSWERING MACHINE
(This is hilarious - no wonder some people were offended!)
This is the message that the Pacific Palisades High School (California) staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school. This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework. The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough schoolwork to pass their classes.
The outgoing message:

But seriously speaking, suing the school?
If they vote in favor of the parents, I'm breaking someone's empty childish headI mean, I remember how this one girl talked about how her mother would get in teacher's faces all the time saying that 'SHE'S SUCH A GUD GRL, UR GIVING HER A PHAIL BECUZ SHE BLACK' and eventually they give in. Same with her absenses and the 'I DROP HER OFF AT SCHOOL EVERYDAY, DON'T BE LYING BECAUSE YOU'RE RACIST' despite the fact that they can very well LEAVE after she goes. Asians are too lazy to complain/don't give a damn, seeing a white kid is rare-*shot*, and Hispanics are in there with the Asians. When I see people like that, I feel like saying 'I'm sorry that I actually work for something. :/'

I don't know how much of this is true about the lawsuit and everything, but I totally favor them making that policy. Stupid politicians trying to hold teachers responsible for grades when parents aren't even making their students work or go to school and then being all shocked when the kid gets a bad grade? WTF?
Especially because I was always taught (by my parents!) that if you don't have an education, you don't have anything. And I was raised to believe that doing well in school was important, so I worked hard. And my school was pretty square on "You do the work, you get the grade." The ones that always make me sad are the ones who do try and do the work the best they can...but just can't make the grade. That makes me so sad...

It seems like everyone is using an Iroh icon :D So I'll use my favorite one of him, even though it has nothing at all to do with this post/comment!

Or a discouragement for my future.

Suburbia Nowhere schools need that answering machine message, mainly because that's exactly what most of our school-age population is like. The sad thing? One of the deacons at my church is a senior English teacher, and he's told us that even if it's numerically impossible for a kid to pass the year (two weeks left and he has a 15 total average for the year), he can't tell that kid he's going to fail. And it's mainly the kids' faults, and even worse it can be traced back to the long line of drug/alcohol abuse in their families. A good percentage of Suburbia Nowhere families are royally screwed just because of that. Dx

I honestly pity these kids when they get out into the real world. They're going to be eaten ALIVE.

I may be a bit idealistic (ok...a lot idealistic), but at least I was blessed enough to get a decent mum who holds me accountable for anything stupid I do. And as for not keeping score, that's a bit dumb. Sure, it may make them feel bad that they lost, but wouldn't that just help fuel their drive to do better next time? Taking that away, I would think, would harm a team more than help them. =|
