Wow, long day...

I'm sure you're all sick of hearing about my health (or lack thereof), so I'll keep it short--still feel like crap. Still hate my sinuses. Still coughing like it's going out of style. Still planning on taking large quantities of psychedelic drugs (i.e. Nyquil) to knock me out. Hopefully for the ENTIRE NIGHT tonight.

And for the record, Nyquil can be a psychedelic drug. Take it when your body isn't done throwing up yet and thus will not sleep. You see funny things. Why were there shadow-people in my dorm room that night...? *whimpers*

Today was a weird day. I'd actually forgotten that it's Standardized Test Week in our district. High school had the ITEDs (Iowa Tests of Educational Development) today and tomorrow, and the middle school is in ITBS (Iowa Tests of Basic Skills) all week. So the schedule is sort of wonky. I always hated those tests when I was in school, not because I have any great dislike for tests, per se, but because I'm a very fast reader, so I tended to breeze through those tests...and then have to sit there with nothing to do for fifteen minutes. Y HALO THAR ADHD! \o/

Spent much of my morning administering tests to kids, then had first period choir, fifth period study hall (that's the lunch period), second period choir, and THEN hopped in my car to rush to the middle school to run a quick choir rehearsal, then BACK to the high school for a meeting *pantpantflops*

Tomorrow will be a bit easier, though. We've got tests in the morning, and then it runs periods four through eight. Only one where I have students is fifth--a girl in my study hall. Then I have study hall eighth period at the middle school...for twenty-five minutes.

We started the Les Miserables medley with the high schoolers today. It's not hard at all. Just long ^^;; But I burned all the songs in it onto a CD, and we're listening to 'em as we go through 'em. They all seem to be liking it so far, which is nice :D And the girl who asked if we could do something Les Mis kept saying, "I love you, Miss S!" Which made me feel happy ♥

No new ficcage tonight. Got a couple of things half-scrawled out in my notebook (did that while the kids were testing--not like I really had much else to do), but nothing completed or typed. And I'm overall just not in the mood for it right now. I do have my twenty-fourth fandom done for [livejournal.com profile] 100fandomhell, though--wrote it a couple of days ago. Might go post it now...or tomorrow...I dunno.

Wonder what I should have for dinner tomorrow...

...yeah. I'm boring. I know.

I try to do a wide variety of music with my groups. That way, there will hopefully be at least one piece in the set that every person can really get into, ya know?

*nodnod* Wow. Love that philosophy! .... XD *jealous~~* I believe that art should have some sort of writing in it, even if it's not grammatically correct or what have you. I WANT TO SEE SOME CRITICAL THINKING SKILLZ NOW. STAT! It pains me when people don't realize how important art is (*cough* Propoganda anyone? Marketing? HELLOOOOO~~)

I'm actually looking at three new pieces for my middle schoolers--a slow, pretty piece that a bunch of the girls seemed really excited about when I showed it to them, a Celtic piece that I think they'll get into, and a Jersey Boys medley ^_~

*nod* I agree. I've sort of thought about doing something like that with my high schoolers for choir--I have to give a semester test, so I might give them an assignment sheet and say "Go home. Pick a favorite song. And write about it." But yes, art is important! THE ARTS are important, period! \o/ How boring would movies be without graphic design and background scores? *gg*

[identity profile] ehrenyu.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
Movies wouldn't be as entertaining I think! *gg*

|D I don't even know what a Jersey Boys medley is.. XD;;

As for the assignments, it'd be more like the beginning of every unit I ask them a question and they write what they think about it and I'll introduce an artist or two depending on the art-making lessons we're focusing on. :D People can name the 'famous' artists of all time, but don't know what their works look like! *shockshockshock* XD

Agreed! \o/

Jersey Boys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey_Boys) is a Broadway musical based on the music of the Four Seasons.

Ehehe...I admit to being one of those who can't always point out a work by a specific artist >_>;; That's why I'm a music teacher, not an art teacher!

:D Thanks~ Now if only I had headphones... XD;;

It's alright, I'm just saying, you know the difference between say Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and say.. a Rembrandt like Three Crosses. And did you know that Micheangelo HATED painting? He believed himself to be a sculpture first and foremost and only ever inscribed his name on one of his early sculptures, as the story goes because he was furious that nobody could recognize it as his. XD He never inscribed his name after that. ♥♥

Oh shit. Art lesson? OOPS. XD

Ah, the good ol' Iowa Test of Endless Dots... Brings back memories, that does. (I'm sure there's an equally witty new translation for the ITBS, but all I could think of for Basic Skills is... not something many people want to hear out of gradeschoolers, so.) I totally did the same thing with the circle-fill-in tests back in the day, but I was always allowed to do quiet activities (reading, drawing, etc) after I finished.
