What. A. Day...
Jan. 15th, 2006 04:36 pmSorry to everyone I didn't get back to yesterday. Was gone aaaaaaaall day. A few days back, my sister had called me--their first show choir competition was on Saturday the 14th, she said, and could I pretty please come and see them? Well, of course I could. So for your reading pleasure, a quick summary run-down of my Interesting Day of Evil.
I was on duty Friday night, which equaled up until 2 AM for rounds. So Kelly and I watched some movies, and as soon as we'd done rounds, I crawled into bed (was about 2:30 or so), and went to sleep. Two hours later, my alarm went off and I got up to shower, etc. My parents picked me up, and we were on the road at 6:15 AM. I slept for two hours 'till we stopped for breakfast, ate, then went back to sleep for the next hour of driving.
We stopped to pick up Grandpa and took him out to Pizza Ranch for lunch, got back on the road, and got to the school where the comp was at about 1:30-ish. Got seats and settled in for the long haul. My sister's group was up first--I love their show this year. The guys' number was especially delightful--it's all about how they are manly show choir men who can sing and dance and lift girls *le heart* The ballad was "If I Can't Love Her" from Beauty and the Beast (double heart!!) Their closer was a song from the revue Swing called "Throw That Girl Around." When Sis told me about it, I had to have her repeat the title because I didn't think I'd heard right. But they had some kick-ass choreography in that song!
Another group did "Knights of the Round Table" from Spamalot. That was...interesting, to say the least. Not in a good or bad way, it was just very different *shrug* I did like the part where they shouted "FREE SPAM!" and started throwing Spam cans to the audience. Anything Spam is good.
Long story short, our group made finals. So we hightailed it back to the auditorium to reclaim our most excellent seats. It was there that things started getting interesting. For starters, Daddy had to step in and vouch for a volunteer mother from the host school. She'd tried to stop a kid from going somewhere he wasn't supposed to, and the kid's parent had claimed that the mom had tried to assault the kid. Said parent told this to a police officer. Dad stepped in and informed the cop that it was, in fact, pretty much the other way around. Yay, Daddy!
Our host group performed to kick things off, and then the first group took the stage. They're probably one of the best show choirs in the state, but first slot in finals is a rough draw no matter what. But near the end of their second number, I started hearing this weird whistling sound that I didn't remember hearing from their band during the prelims. Then I noticed the flashing lights, and thought someone had broken the strict rule about no flash photography. Guess what--FIRE ALARM!!
Needless to say, we weren't terribly happy ~.~ But anyway, we went back in and the finals continued. But I think something about the outside did something funny to me, because pretty much from the moment we sat back down, my sinuses started going absolutely nuts. Blaaaaaaah...
Our group gave a great performance. When the guys did their song, the choreography judge was laughing so hard he couldn't even stay in his chair--he had tears coming out of his eyes. It was awesome. But then we left and headed home. Stopped at McDonald's for dinner. Got a call from Sis. We're now reserving our judgment and waiting to hear what the judge's comments were before we decide whether or not something smells fishy as to how they came in Dead. Last. In. Finals.
I slept really uneasily most of the way home. My sinuses were driving me nuts. With the delay, got back about 2:30 or so. Crawled into bed...and it took me an hour to fall asleep. Sometimes I just want to punch my body in the face. Or something. It pisses me off!! But yeah, that was my Saturday. Almost twenty-four hours worth of it ~.~;;
But anyway, now I'm back on campus. Should write my paper. Don't really feel like it. Would rather mope about a bit about how crappy I feel. Maybe watch a movie later. Get to bed early, I hope. Up at six tomorrow morning. Last week of Supervised Participation, yay!!
Random news bit: might be tackling another fanfic challenge. There's one that has caught my eye. I'm just waiting for confirmation as to whether or not I get the couple I want. Will let the world know when I find out. Should be fun.
Okay, I'm going to lay down and stare at the ceiling for a bit before I go eat dinner. Much love!!

Date: 2006-01-16 01:12 am (UTC)I'm not really an advocate of the whole "we got screwed" attitude that Mr. Director likes to encourage...but I saw all of the groups that performed that day, babe, and while I fully agreed with the school that won, I really want to hear the judges' comments as to the rest. They gave a far better performance than fifth runner-up, and there was one school that placed higher than them that you couldn't hear at all. I'm just a bit confused as to how it all works out. But I will reserve my judgment until I hear from Le Sister as to what the judges said.
