For our third Conducting test, we have to pick a choral piece, teach it to the choir, and then direct it at the last concert, which is the outdoor one. So it's quote-unquote "fun music." Mrs. K is directing everyone in "Somewhere," from West Side Story. This is the one they did for All-State my senior year. *pokes* Hey, [livejournal.com profile] msbbt, remember that one? I despise the musical, but the arrangement is beautiful ♥

Why do I hate West Side Story, you may ask? Simple--I'm sick of it. Freshman year of high school, it was the marching band show. Sophomore year, it was the musical. Senior year, "Somewhere" was part of the All-State set (though it was partially redeemed by virtue of being a gorgeous arrangement). HATE.

Anyway, so we're doing that with large amounts of lurv. Then each of the Conducting Kids gets to do one. Sarah chose "Rockin' Jerusalem." Rev (aka Cory) picked "On the Street Where You Live." Rage picked "Come Sail Away." I picked the Moses Hogan arrangement of "The Battle of Jericho."

*pokes again* [livejournal.com profile] msbbt, remember that one, too? I get to conduct it now, yay!!

The run-through went a lot better than I thought it would. I remembered I had a recording of it, too, so I pulled that out and played it for everyone, and then we sight-read. We made it to the last part before the train derailed. So talked through it, ran it again, people caught on by about the second measure of it. It's really not a hard song, note-wise, but there are a lot of fast rhythms, which can make it tricky. The men's part has a little more to it than the women's, but from what I heard today, the low basses are feeling some ♥ towards the part ^__^

In other, non-choir-related news, I posted icons for this week's theme at [livejournal.com profile] tantei_stills. First time entry. I'm still a baby when it comes to Photoshop and making icons, so I'm not sure how they measure up to the others entered there, but oh well. Guess I'll find out =P If I place, awesome. If not, oh well, I tried.

Looking forward to break *checks another day off on the calender* Even more looking forward to spending quality time with Kat-chan, involving food and most likely discussion of anime/fics. It's just so much nicer when we can fangirl face-to-face!!

Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] mint_eclair pointed out in response to the Conan musical (*huggles all the lovely people who left comments*) that I have unintentionally created the Conan crack-pairing to end all Conan crack-pairings. And now the plunnies are chewing on my head and demanding I write it as OTP O_O Kat--HELP!!

Note to self: While perusing random files on my compuer, found several relatively LJ-worthy convos with [livejournal.com profile] magic_truth. Must post for reading enjoyment of fandom...

I'm in my first year of chorus (though it's my senior yer in HS) and we did this really beautiful arrangement of a song called Precious Lord, Take My Hand. Now, for the Spring concert, we're doing a really nice arrangement of "Lullaby" by Billy Joel. I wish we were doing showtues though, atleast one, lol.

We sang Moses Hogan's "Elijah Rock" for Metro .. and now we're singing it at State, too, I guess. Moses Hogan's music is so much fun. ♥ And I sang "Somewhere" for my voice recital, even though I hate Westside Story. The song is just too pretty to be from that show. XD

I still remember the words in La Boheme. Do you think I've forgotten those XD? Heck, I knew the Hogan Battle of Jericho before we sang it o_O. We're doing a women's choir version this year that I don't like as much, but oh well. We need a new soloist for Tanzania which will be funny cause the girl that had it before can jazz stuff up like there's no tomorrow and none of the other girls can do that XD *will audition for the heck of it*

The senior women did Billy Joel's "Lullaby" for the Homecoming concert my freshmen year. 'Twas lovely!

We usually do a Broadway medley of some kind for our last concert--freshmen year we did The Music Man, and last year was Porgy and Bess. Wonder if we'll have one this year...I wouldn't mind doing that Big River one again, that one was fun! The concert's outdoors, so it's a lot of fun music. *sings* Who put the bomp in the bomp-ba-bomp-ba-bomp...

Moses Hogan music is lotsa fun. We did "Ezekiel Saw the Wheel" my freshmen year. The low altos (including myself) were melting into happy-puddles and doing Dances of Joy because we got to sing a low E, below middle C. Low notes equal happy altos!!

"Somewhere" and "Gee, Officer Krupke" are the only two songs from West Side Story that I find tolerable, the former because it's pretty, and the second because it makes me chuckle and want to dance ^___^ *is happy* I love musicals...

*sings* Echo lo la, il bel tambor major, tutto splendor...

Yeah, I remember La Boheme too. When I watched it for my Music History opera project, I was singing along with a good chunk of the second act =P Considering that I was in sixth grade and you were in fifth, that's either amazing or sad ^^;; That was, what, ten years ago? *chuckle*

I don't know if you remember this or not, but we actually performed here at BVU!! I didn't realize this until I was on tour through the chapel, and recognized the walkways on the side, where we'd stood to sing. Crazy, huh?

Anyway, I'm kinda looking forward to working Jericho. I'm bringing it home over break and comparing it with the schedule to break it up into sections for rehearsal. Should be lots and lots of fun! ^^;;

Good luck with your audition! I'll call you tomorrow night to plan for Saturday. Looking forward to hanging out--I have a plunnie infestation, and talking with you always helps me get them out of my dreams and into my comp. Luvs!
