So I had my first Creative Writing class today. That class is pure love! The prof is most awesome, and I'm really looking forward to the actual work of the class. It's basically journalling, free-writing, poetry, and short stories. That's right down my street. I mean, think of all the fanfic challenges I do where you get a word and write on it. I'm really looking forward to this!

Anyway, we did a journaling-type thing, and she basically plopped a bunch of items down in front of us and said, "Pick one and write about it." Well, one of the objects was this glass doorknob that looked sort of crystally, and my anime-trained mind went to work. I bet that most of you will be able to tell what this reminds you of...

The small stone sat in his palms. It was clear, not offering much contrast against the white of his gloves. It really looked like an ordinary stone, some sort of cheap knock-off crystal that you could get in a dollar-store. But looks were misleading.

He knew that better than anyone.

After all, one was not a world-class jewel thief without knowing all the ways a person could deceive and be deceived. He was known for his ability to mimic, to imitate others to near-perfection, often even convincing the person’s own family members that he was the genuine article. He took pride in his skill, but it was merely a hobby. His true objective had been to find this one stone, and he had finally achieved that goal.

For a long time, he had been wondering if he would ever succeed. It seemed he was as close to his goal as a beggar child was to the stars. But now here it sat in his hot little hands. It was his now.

He’d gone through so many, but each had failed the test. The true crystal would glow crimson when exposed to the light of the full moon. Those others he sent back to their rightful owners; they were of no use to him. But this one had barely left the shadows when it emitted that radiant scarlet light. And he could have wept for joy. His quest was finally over.

For this was no ordinary stone. If crazy legends held true, then this was indeed a magical stone. Not only did it glow by the full moon’s kiss, but it supposedly cried on its own—a liquid which could give immortality when imbibed. It was no ordinary stone—if one believed the legends.

But then again, he was no ordinary thief. No ordinary thief would wear white and make his heists into a show like he did. No ordinary thief would actually invite the police to the scene of the crime, only to soar over their heads and escape. He was far from ordinary. They really complimented each other.

Considering that his enemies had murdered his father for this rock…

But it was his now. And no one would ever have it again.

Taking a deep breath, he held the stone in one hand, and raised a heavy rock in the other. Magical or not, it would be destroyed, and then his father could rest.

But as he swung his weapon at the cursed jewel, it began to glow red. Strange, because they were in the shadows, and no moonlight touched its smooth, clear surface…

It was days later that a young man was found wandering alone around the city. He wore jeans and a dark shirt. When they finally collected him and brought him to a hospital, he had no recollection of who he was. No name, no age, and no idea where his family might be found. And he had no identification.

Only a small stone in his pocket. A clear rock, much like quartz, that he was incredibly protective of. No one was to take it, though he couldn’t say why. It didn’t seem to have much value. But that night, as the full moon’s glow cast in through the window, one of the nurses at the hospital swore that she saw the stone turn red.

Perhaps the legend wasn’t so crazy after all. And perhaps the stone didn’t want to be destroyed.

Written in seven minutes. Hence, the slight crappiness. An idea I've had bumbling around in my head for quite some time now, and just needed a boost to get it going. This will be a full-blown, better-written fanfic sooner or later. I've been wanting to write something for Kaito anyway.

But yeah, expect to see more of my random creative writing exercises tossed up here. See if I can write something other than fanfics!! Might have to create a Memories entry for these...yeah, I think I will ^_^

Much love,
~ Candy-chan ^_^
