Day One: Success?
Aug. 26th, 2006 03:36 pmWell, we have [almost] survived Day One of Opening Weekend *is slightly dead* We've got dinner and the first floor meeting to get through, and then I can crawl into bed and not moved until...six-thirty tomorrow morning ^^;; And then classes start on Monday =D
Traffic duty this morning was surprisingly pleasant--only one person just breezed past me, and that...was the garbage truck. And the guy just looked at me as he went by as if to say, "What the hell are you doing? I'm not going to stop, I'm the effin' garbage truck!" But otherwise, I was directing a lot of lost freshmen and parents down the one-way street. We checked ninety people in today. Tomorrow...we have around thirty. I think it might be a long day. I wish they'd let us have laptops down there--the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with Ari.
I watched Little Sister march through the Arch today *wipes away tears of joy* I'm so proud! She's all moved in and ready to rock--she's actually living a floor above me, straight up the stairs, take a right, end of the hall. YAY! She swears up and down that she's not excited, doesn't care...and yet she wanted to come down and see my room. And meet my fishie ♥ I think she traumatized poor Kaito... *pets fishie* ... *not really*
So about half an hour until I meet my floor and go to dinner. At seven, we have a house meeting. I think I have it more or less planned out. I'm on a freshmen floor, so there's some policies and things to go over *takes deep breath* I can do this!! I just...ya know, gotta NOT do the whole 'me' thing of babbling like a moron when I get nervous >.>;; That tends to happen a lot, and I think it's part of the reason I have such a phone phobia--empty silence makes me want to fill it, and what comes out isn't always the most intelligent thing ^^;;
And my muse is crazy. I mean it--it's batshiz crazy. Just thought I'd share. But yeah, I think there are some birthdays coming up soon...that I am totally not planning on writing gift-fics for, nope nope nope, of course not *innocent face* I'm privately wondering how many classes I'll be allowed to have Ari in...I swear, I do my best work in class. Which is probably not a good thing, but I'll roll with it. Certainly isn't hurting my GPA any =D
Oh yeah, and my email is working again! *happy happy does backflip*

Date: 2006-08-27 12:47 am (UTC)Once, way, waaaay back when I was still in college--ahem!-about-three-years-ago-ahem!--I took this one Shakespeare course where the professor made us do scene by scene summaries outside of class, then lectured us in class--shutting us down every time we made a comment. Needless to say, as that class progressed people subtly found other activities to occupy their time. Those with laptops were among the blessed. I had loose leaf. ^^*
Hang in there! The hard work is only beginning--I mean, almost over!

Date: 2006-08-27 01:53 am (UTC)A lot of my writing gets done in class. It's horrible, but in some cases it's the only way I've kept awake =P And I swear that something about having boring lectures in the background makes the writing happen better. Music History and Lit churned out a TON of 30 Kisses stories, and several Nights fics...so I s'pose I should be grateful to that class in some miniscule way?
I student teach second semester, so this coming semester will probably pale in comparison. *rolls up sleeves* Bring it on!
