Health worries...

...so apparently a student here on campus was taken to the hospital a couple days ago and treated for bacterial meningitis. They emailed everyone to warn us to protect ourselves by washing our hands and such, but on top of the mono that appeared in two of the dorms a couple weeks back...

I can't afford to get sick. I've got too much to do. So everyone just keep your meningitis and mono away from me, plzktnx.

We had that go around USD this past spring. Thankfully it did not spread. Do all the sanitary crap they always tell ya in health class and you'll be fine^^. Otherwise I'll have to come and play nurse for ya. ^_-

Rassa frassa CDC, thinks it's not cost-effective to immunize the country against meningitis... *mutter mutter grumble*

To paraphrase my bio teacher, washing one's hands regularly with soap is more effective against the flu than are the yearly flu shots. Also, vaccinations against meningitis are only about the cost of a new pair of 'good' sneakers ($40/50 or 'round that much). The bacteria in question tends to live in the throat, so as long as you don't go around playing tonsil hockey with everyone, you should be relatively okay. Still, is a nasty microorganism :( *still wants to be vaccinated for it*

I'm washing my hands like crazy. I did get vaccinated for meningitis my freshmen year, but it sounds like the vaccination doesn't last very long--might need to get that renewed... *sigh* Shots suck, but do what we gotta do.
