My best friend (who's studying history to become a history teacher) is also going to have to do that soon...And she feels nervous as hell, too...Especially since she's like 5 feet tall and nowadays kids are all damn skyscrapers...
Ahem...my point is - don't let them intimidate, threaten, scare or get to you in any other way...You're the teacher! They should fear you! Muahahaha! *cough*
Anyway... *pats* Hang in there! It's going to be okay! XDD
I think you'll do fabulously! You're good with kids, for the younger ones, and for the high schoolers...just remember it wasn't so long ago that YOU were one, so you're still pretty savvy about what goes on in high school...you should be just fine :)
Please, please listen to me when I tell you to make sure you don't have a complete ass for a teacher!
My cousin has to redo a whole course AND student teaching (while paying again for the course without getting a refund for the first time she passed it) because the teacher they stuck her with hated her. I really don't want to see anyone else get in that kinda sitch, 'cause it kinda really sucks (she was going on to Wilmington College this fall to change her degree from teaching kindergarten to kindergarten & elementary (or whatever the next batch is), and now she can't because of all this).
Hopefully that won't happen to you, and hopefully student teaching will be a blast. Either way, g'luck with it, and I'm sure you'll be great. You're a very likeable person, and there's no way anyone would hate you. -hug- Rock their socks, y'hear? =)
Kids are getting taller! Seriously, though, if some little first grader is taller than me, I'm throwing in the towel and becoming a janitor. Seriously >.>;; Or not. Probably not.
Well, I don't necessarily want them to fear me... @_@
Ummm...well, I don't know what time I'll be done meeting my coops...probably mid-afternoon, so theoretically something could be planned for Des Moines...?
The first half will be elementary school--seven weeks of small children. And I do like kids...I'm just more used to being in the role of "older cousin who doesn't mind playing Blue's Clues or showing us how to build nifty things with Legos." Going to have to get used to the role of "music teacher."
...sweetie, nuns are the ones who slap the hands with a ruler. NUNS. Not music teachers. We just don't let them play the xylophone--that's what one teacher I worked with did, anyway, when this kid wouldn't behave.
I actually know how hard it is to go to a counselor--I visited with our school's counselor a couple of times. But you've gotta hang in there and try, right? We're all rooting for you :)
I guess with younger kids, I'm more accustomed to the role of "older cousin who's good at Blue's Clues" than to the role of "teacher." But that'll come with time, I guess. As for high schoolers...I'm sort of saavy, but I was always the one who was uber-serious about choir rehearsal (except for when I was sitting next to Kat--then it was aaaaaaaaall giggles!). I s'pose I'll manage, though ^_^;;
I don't know about going crazy--I do work on Saturday--but I wouldn't be averse at all to some hanging out after work on Saturday or sometime on Sunday? :D
...so we'll be doing sort of the same thing, actually o.O You'll be teaching music to the tykes at your church, and I'll be teaching music to the sprouts at the school.
...my cooperating teachers sounded really nice over the phone, but that story made me kind of nervous, actually >.>;; I hope I can get along with them and it'll all be good.
XD I was kidding about the whole scare the kids to death thing... XD
You just need to find a fine balance between being their teacher and a friend...Be supportive but also pose an authority... Gah, like I know what the hell I'm talking about...I'd probably run away screaming...*deadpans*
