I'm sure that since you're going with your parents, who are PROBABLY more experienced than I, they will know this, but remember when you're looking at places to not just look and see what it looks like at the time. Try to look at what it would look like with all your stuff in there. And if the walls are all white, ask if you can paint. A place will seem more like "yours" if you can slap a color you like on the walls.
