Have any of you ever had something you've wanted, but you knew it was kind of shallow and petty and selfish and overall, just incredibly stupid to wish for, but you've wanted it anyway? I think most people have experienced that at some point, yes? (Please to be telling me I'm not crazy?)

Well, I have one such daydream--someday, in some fandom, I want to achieve BNF status.

Don't ask me why. I just do.

I don't know if this sounds weird but, in my opinion, you are one of the BNFs of the Detective Conan fandom. Along with a few other people. When I think of that fandom, I think of you and your fics.

Then again, this BNF thing is all relative innit? Outside some circles BNFs aren't all that BNF and vice versa? I dunno... *sighs* I myself think it's probably better to be truly appreciated by those who can find and appreciate your work than to be the biggest name out there and appear... well "BNF"-ish in it's less savoury definition, even if it's unintentional/misinterpretation. If you can get the first and be BNF without the (-) definition, then I guess it's the Jack Pot, right? ^__^

Because if I was a BNF that would imply that I have spent several hundred hours gathering information both from the japanese manga, the scanlations and various japanese sites to then spend countless hours compiling it and cursing our html skills to put it into comprehensive data bases for everyone to use.

Or write several hundred fanfics for the series.

And drawn half again as many artworks.

And spend countless more hours on-line talking to fans via message boards, chat boxes, instant messages and travelling across states to meet them over the course of several years.

Or go across the Pacific ocean to Japan so we could get rare doujinshi for the series cheap.

So therefore it quite obvious that it is FAR too much work to become a Big Name Fan and we are not one.

Humour aside tho... I think that Knightus, Miyako and MagicBulletGirl deserve the title 'BNF' much more than, say, myself. (which I'm still WTF-ing over, I don't think I deserve that horror honour at all)

Cause they're the ones actually getting the series/canon out there and translated, every week so that us ficcers have the canon to play with. And they're the ones who pushed to get DC completely translated, instead of bits here and there. That's a lot of work and a lot of stress.

Writing in DC/MK is something I just do for fun, we could leave if we wanted to. They're the ones that people depend on for the series. And I don't think they get enough credit for that. ^^;;

Don't discount yourself. You've done a lot for the fandom with your work. But the qualification of a BNF is that you can't admit to it, so, I'll let it slide. Personally, I think there are/were probably 10 or so people that qualify. So, you're not alone.
