My sister is EVIL. And I loves her ~♥
Feb. 3rd, 2008 09:32 amLast night I was sitting merrily at my computer, chatting with various peoples, when my sister pings me on MSN. We wind up getting into a big chat about some of the cartoons we used to watch when we were kids. Remember that Sis and I were born in the eighties (me in 1985, her in '87), so we grew up on the classic cartoons, particularly the ol' Disney Afternoon block. The good stuff.
...elitist? Me? Perish the thought ^^;; Cartoons are serious business and all that *laugh* What can I say? My childhood memories include curling up every afternoon to be regaled with the stories of Duck Tales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and all those.
Actually...when we saw the Duck Tales movie in the theatre, way back in the day when we were wee little lasses, we discovered that Dad truly does not pay attention to things *laugh* At the end of the movie, they played the theme song. Dad starts trying to get coats on his two little girls. So when they get to the part in the song where they say "Duck Tales," EVERY SINGLE KID in the audience screams "WOO-HOO!" According to Mom, Dad more or less jumped over a row of seats in surprise. I love clueless!Daddy ♥
But anyway, they're releasing a lot of these old series on DVD, and Little Sister and I are REALLY excited about it. She's especially excited about the release of the first three seasons of Gummi Bears, and we're talking about which ones we're hoping to see come out soon. Seriously, where's the love for the Muppet Babies and Tiny Toons? *shakes fist*
And then...she sent me the first link of several. And I wound up spending nearly two hours of my evening watching these videos *facepalm* But god, what an awesome trip down memory lane! And now I pass them onto you, because I know a fair number of you are around my age, and might remember some of these...
♥ Cartoon Themes of the Eighties!
♥ Cartoon Themes of the Nineties, the First!
♥ Cartoon Themes of the Nineties Part Two: Electric Boogaloo!
♥ Classic Nickelodeon Cartoon Openings!
♥ Classic Nickelodeon TV Openings!
...and it did make me feel better when other people told me that yes, they also remember all of the words to the Pokemon theme song. Because I was singing along. Well, I was singing along with a LOT of them, but that one in particular jumped out at me for some reason ^^;;
But yeah, I'm twenty-two years old, a college graduate, and a first-year teacher...and I can still sing the theme songs from Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop. Two thumbs up, yo z(^o^)b Enjoy the vids, for they are nostalgic love!
By the way...what are people's thoughts on the show Gargoyles? I hear all this great stuff about it, though I've never actually seen it ^^;; Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Bueller?

"By the way...what are people's thoughts on the show Gargoyles?"
I remember loving it. ♥ Though I had to be what, 12 at the time? Just the idea of Mythological creatures from the middle ages in New York Skycrapers was WHEE~! Don't currently remember much about it, except you had the old papa Gargoyle, big buff heroic gargoyle and skinny looking clever gargoyle, as well as Castles in the Sky~! Ooh, and a shiny Avalon! :D
♥
And thanks for the links, me gonna watch them as I continue tidying me room. X3

Date: 2008-02-03 04:13 pm (UTC)I enjoyed Gargoyles, though it did get a little odd there in the final season. I'd suggest at least watching an episode or two if you're interested in it at all.

Date: 2008-02-03 04:14 pm (UTC)For what I remember, it was good, some characters were interessing/touching, there was room for shades of grey, some scenes powerfull enough to burn some memories in my brain which have not fadded away, and interessing plot.

Date: 2008-02-03 04:41 pm (UTC)I hate some of the new tv shows that they now have on. ~_~ I do wish toon disney would stop playing the new shows and do more of the old ones and put Gummi Bears back on!
Also big gargoyles fan!

.....
Animorphs?! Why God, why?! The show was so horrible, omg. I can't believe that people want to make a movie out of the books after the shows major fail. >/ (entry). /mini-rant
Now, I finally flee. <3 |D

Date: 2008-02-03 09:37 pm (UTC)Ahh, yeah... I grew up on Disney cartoons, too although when I discovered anime, they pretty much became...dull. XD
Ooh, Gargoyles! I used to watch it and it was really awesome! It had these interesting characters, awesome music and the animations was pretty nice, too. Plus, the plot was kind of dramatic and unexpected at times so I'd definitely recommend it to you! :D

Date: 2008-02-03 10:31 pm (UTC)But seriously, the plot was actually very intriguing. I suggest, however, to watch the cartoon-movie it was originally based upon. It's great fun in seeing how it all starts and going on from there.
Still love billionaire!dude!what'shisface. His and Goliath's... relationship made me snerk so bad.
And proof of the awsum is how the show begins:
"One thousand years ago, superstition and the sword ruled. It was an time of darkness, it was a world of fear, it was the age of Gargoyles. Stone by day, warriors by night, we were betrayed by the humans we had sworn to protect, frozen in stone by a magic spell for a thousand years. Now, here in Manhattan, the spell is broken and we live again! We are defenders of the night, we are Gargoyles!"
... what? IT WAS MY CHILDHOOD, MAN.

Date: 2008-02-03 10:42 pm (UTC)... actually, that was probably the reason I really got into Sherlock Holmes and the like. Oh, my childhood~

Date: 2008-02-04 01:49 pm (UTC)But seriously, they have those big-name movies on YouTube, in full? @___@ They'll get taken down soon, I imagine. Disney got on their case for people uploading five minute clips of their movies.

Date: 2008-02-04 02:32 pm (UTC)I feel so deprived for never getting to see Gargoyles ^^;; When I saw a commercial for it, I thought it looked cool (and maybe a little creepy), but I never actually saw it. But so many people seem to like it. Maybe I need to check it out...
You're welcome! Enjoy them well ^___^

Date: 2008-02-04 02:47 pm (UTC)I never really got into the Animorphs craze, books or otherwise. I watched the first episode of the TV show, and that was about it. I was a Goosebumps girl when I was a kid ^_~
...why are they making a movie out of it now? Didn't the ending of the book series piss a lot of people off? O_O
*waves you off* Fly fly!

Date: 2008-02-04 02:48 pm (UTC)Well, to be honest, I didn't catch Gargoyles until it hit syndication on... was it USA? Some cable channel or other, and it was the second season that snagged my attention (go go sidhe references). But I enjoyed the first season just as much all the same. =)

Date: 2008-02-04 02:49 pm (UTC)The masses are encouraging me to give Gargoyles a try. I think I will look it up ^^;;
I'm planning on starting to collect some of these old cartoon series. Granted, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original animated series) is a LOT cheesier than I remember it. Blasphemy, I know ^^;; But on the other hand, Animaniacs is ever BETTER than I remember it. So...who knows? But Gummi Bears and Darkwing Duck are at the top of my list.

Date: 2008-02-04 03:02 pm (UTC)I'm divided on that--I'm not an anime purist by any means. I have a very soft spot for a lot of the classic cartoons. But at the same time, I went back and rewatched the original TMNT series...and was stunned at how cheesy it was.
I guess I look at it in different ways--anime tends to have much more of the plots and characters I love, whereas many of the American cartoons have the dialogue and (occasionally cheap) humor that somehow speaks to me. SO I CAN LOVE THEM ALL! :D
I have been convinced. I'll look into Gargoyles ^^;;

Date: 2008-02-04 03:10 pm (UTC)h0r.I will take a look at it. Everyone seems to recommend it highly. Haven't really heard a negative thing about it on this comment thread, at least. So I think I'll give it a look and see where I wind up ^____^
*laugh* I sometimes think I can embody my childhood in Power Rangers, Carmen Sandiego, and TMNT. Which is probably a sad, sad thing.

Date: 2008-02-04 03:25 pm (UTC)My sister links me to a LOT of videos ^^;; But when she told me what these were? I couldn't help myself. I'm a big nut for classics, and I fondly remember watching a LOT of these cartoons as a kid. I have stories about quite a few of them, too. Things near and dear to my tar-blackened little heart ^__^
Everyone's telling me how awesome Gargoyles was, so I think I need to give it a look. I always thought it looked creepy but cool when I saw commercials for it as a kid, but I never actually got to see it. I feel I must remedy this! \o/
Pinky and the Brain had an AWESOMELY catchy theme song--as did many shows back in that era. That's probably why we remember them now ^^;; But yeah, some of these were me staring going "...that was a show?" (More in the eighties than the nineties). And I noticed Captain Planet was missing. That was an great theme! Really catchy ^_^
And you know what? I think that's really okay for our generation (I'm guessing you're around my age-ish? Sorry if I'm wrong on that...), and I don't think we watched as much as we think. Because I think a lot of us could balance watching TV and playing video games with a decent amount of time spent playing outdoors and reading. At least that's how it was around my neighborhood ^^;;
(no subject)
Date: 2008-02-04 03:30 pm (UTC)*nods* That's what I thought when I saw about them being on YouTube. They're really cracking down on a lot of that stuff--goes for anime as well.
But I've always thought that if they could figure out a way to control it, YouTube could be a powerful marketing tool for a lot of entertainment companies. Seriously--post the first couple episodes of a show or the first fifteen minutes of a movie to let people get an idea of what it's about. I'm more likely to buy a series or movie that I'm already familiar with ^_~

Date: 2008-02-04 03:34 pm (UTC)I am guilty of liking the All Dogs Go to Heaven franchise, though I can't stand the first sequel. But the TV show and the Christmas movie are guilty pleasures.And seriously, they should do something like that on YouTube! ^^ I wouldn't be interested in Princess Tutu if I hadn't had the chance the chance to watch it first. Now I definitely want to buy it.
I first saw Advent Children on YouTube, too, and then asked for it for Christmas. Ah, memories.(no subject)
Date: 2008-02-04 03:37 pm (UTC)I remember seeing a commercial for Gargoyles, and I thought it looked sort of creepy-cool. Now I guess I'm going to need to look it up and see if I'm interested in investing!

Date: 2008-02-04 03:45 pm (UTC)Haven't seen any All Dogs Go to Heaven movies except for the original. And I haven't seen that in...probably a decade, at least ^^;; Wow, being able to say that makes me feel ancient.I really think that a lot of these companies are underestimating the value of YouTube as a marketing tool. Because nine times out of ten, if I want to find out about something, I go to YouTube to see what I can find. The trick would be finding a way to control it, but I think that it's totally possible!
Having been burned a couple of times (*glares at Haruhi Suzumiya in particular*), I no longer buy without doing research. I actually will look for the first couple of episodes online in most situations to see if it's something I really like.(no subject)
