candyland: (oh shit)

On the recommendation of my sister, some folks at Best Buy, and ninety-five percent of the reviewers at Amazon-dot-com, I bought and started a new work-out DVD: Jillian Michaels: 30 Day Shred. According to just about everyone, it's a miracle routine that can drop you up to twenty pounds in a month as well as toning, shaping, and probably curing various diseases, the way some folks are talking.

I'm trying to be realistic XD But I have to say that it's tough. Bright stars, I did my first day of it yesterday, and I was fairly sure that I was going to die, though part of that might have been that the only set of hand-weights I had available were waaaaaay too heavy.

The program comes in three stages: hard, murderous, and "oh god just let me die." Okay, I'm kidding. Slightly. But you do stage one (where I'm at) until you think you're ready, then up to stage two you go, and so forth. It's HARD. But I will say that even doing it this morning for day two, it felt like my endurance was a bit better. So we'll see where this goes!

The downside is that my arms and legs are hurting. It's not so bad now in my upper arms, but that muscle on the top of your thigh? Yeah. Every time I would try to do something radical today, like...sit down, or walk up stairs, or kneel to get something off a low shelf, that muscle would remind me why I have spent twenty-three years of my life being a couch potato. But it's the good kind of hurt! *VICTORY POSE*

I have Shaymin. It's such a cute little Pokemon! (And according to the guy at the store, my DS is starting to die, sadface T_T) I wound up taking [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi's DS and game with me to get her one as well, since she had class and work yesterday. Her DS is still sitting on my nightstand. Hope you feel better, sweetie D:

Oh! And during my driving escapades yesterday, I listened to Coraline on CD. I must see this movie, because if the movie is half as amazing as the book is, then...gaaaah, I can't even think of an appropriate analogy. But seriously, it's a GREAT BOOK, and it made for a really great way to pass the time in the car.

I also think I like Neil Gaiman's writing style, and if his other stories follow similar subject matter (the supernatural, the vaguely macabre, etc.), then I think I would like to read more by him. I'd heard of him, but this is my first exposure to his work. I rather like it. And I would rather like to drag Kat and Rach to see this movie!! *plots evil*

You should check out the movie MirrorMask. It was written by Gaiman and has all of the elements you like about Coraline in it.

READ MORE GAIMAN NAO.

Because seriously, it's all awesome. Especially his short stories. Also, his novels. It's all awesome.

If you want vaguely macabre in particular, I'd recommend "Smoke and Mirrors" as a start.

They're killing me, but I'm getting used to them! It just takes some time to build up endurance, and then it's not so bad! *envies your stick-ness*

He didn't say anything about yours. Just mine. Might need to save up and get a new one...which color should I get, I wonder?

I'm a long time Gaiman fan I have a few humble suggestions Candy-chan.
First, his short stories are awesome and full of win.
But really, my next suggestion is after reading Coraline(that's still a book I've managed to miss) is read Stardust. And do watch Mirrormask. I mean Henson studio's hired him to do something like thier old classics. It's full of awesome and win.
Finnally, after you read and watch those, read his collaboration with Terry Pratchet of Good Omens. It is sure to give you a intresting view of the world.

Eh, yeah. I'm just... lazy XD;

I dunno. Although, if you get red, I may have to hurt you or something @_@ I totally would have gotten red if I had realized it came out like a week later. Or like the Triforcey one.

*huggles you and offers some ice cream* Just don't overdo it, hon. Take it easy; nothing good comes out of forcing things. Little by little and you'll make it! *cheers you on* ♥

When I read this post I thought about all the resolutions I was making yesterday abouit eating better and losing a few pounds. I decided to give the same DVD a try. :O I had to be a tool and download it cause I'd have lost my nerve well before the thing arrived, but now that I've done the first day I think it's worth buying. <3

Let's cheer each other on! XD

I found an audio book of The Graveyard Book, and I'm really looking forward to giving that a listen :D Gotta go this route because the library doesn't seem to have any copies of his stuff on hand ;o;

I'll be sure to check that out!

I'm going to check out The Graveyard Book next, and then I'll give Stardust a look :D And I have Mirrormask. Just need to sit down and watch it XD

I have never read Terry Pratchett...perhaps this would be a good time to start!

Ice cream... *droolpool*

I don't really feel like I'm forcing things. It feels more like I'm adjusting to actual physical exercises, ya know? And the muscles in my upper arms are already showing results :D

Thanks, sweetie! *squish*

That was one of my New Year's resolutions as well--get as close to quote-unquote "healthy weight" for my height as possible XD As my sister puts it, it's a "bitch-workout," but I think I'm going to actually get some results. Day three, and my endurance has already improved. As have the muscles in my upper arms.

Go go goooooo! *\(^o^)/*

I keep meaning to read more Pratchett, but I never seem to quite find the time. Damn my life! But Good Omens is a great book. Rereading it now.
But no seriously, watch Mirrormask. I can't say enough good things about it.
And... That is that. Yey, more commentage on your LJ.

I've heard his audiobooks are really great, because he reads (at least most of) them. He's got a fabulous voice, so I'd guess so. You'll have to tell me how it is; I've been meaning to read it myself.
