The museum portion of the trip!
Mar. 17th, 2009 07:26 pmWHY IS EVERYONE GETTING TWITTER? *does not understand this*
I didn't write about the rest of the trip yet XD We went to the Field Museum in Chicago on Friday. They had a special exhibit about PIRATES! The Whydah was a slave ship captured by pirate captain Sam Bellamy (who flew under the most famous flag of all, the skull and crossbones). It wrecked and sank off the coast of New England, and they recently rediscovered the wreckage.
But man, that was an AWESOME exhibit. All sorts of displays and exhibits and interactive things, like...knot-tying! They had a sign that showed how to tie four different types of knots. I eventually gave up, grabbed three of the ropes, and braided them before moving on XD I could write a TON about all the stuff they had in there, but the most important thing that you should know about it...
I got to touch pirate booty :3
...
kaitodoushi, was it our discussion of touching pirate booty that led to one of us going "Bow chicka bow wow" which prompted me to declare "BURN THE WITCH!" a la YGO Abridged? Or was that something else? That was funny XD
But yes, the pirate booty! Silver coins from the ship, set under a sheet of plastic with holes in it so you could reach in and touch it. But saying that I touched pirate booty is funnier :D It was a really cool exhibit, put together very well, and I'm glad we got to see it.
Oh, and
kaitodoushi? Tonight it was my dad's turn to be in my head. We both went to make the same hand motion at the exact same time in response to something my mom said. (Family running joke, hard to explain.) Dad started banging on the table and laughing, and then cracked up again when I told him to get out of my head. While he was in there, I hope he did not see the porn.
...eh, I could bitch about work a bit, but I don't feel like it right now because I'm in a good mood. So I will leave it here, and go to finish that fic for
100fandomhell. Really. I will. Just watch me.

Date: 2009-03-18 12:40 am (UTC)Museums are always fun, especially hands-on exhibits. 8) I don't get why people make them out to sound so boring sometimes, because they're actually pretty interesting if you like the subject matter and you get to wander around by yourself and take the time to look at all of the displays.

Date: 2009-03-18 12:43 am (UTC)I agree! Especially since a lot of them nowadays are making more hands-on exhibits, or different ways of setting them up (like how the Egyptian exhibit was set up in a reconstruction of a royal tomb). I'm one of those people who can get lost in a museum for hours. The one we went to had tons of stuff, too. They're fun!

Date: 2009-03-18 12:47 am (UTC)They are really fun! I'm glad they got out of the idea of just putting things on display and are now making it more of a hands-on experience, because it's way easier to learn and understand things that way than just seeing things mounted on a wall with a description next to it.

Date: 2009-03-18 01:27 am (UTC)...I remember that happening, but I can't remember who did what.

Date: 2009-03-18 01:31 am (UTC)Exactly. I know I said "burn the witch," but I can't remember the rest of the exchange. It's bothering me, because I know that it was a funny moment.

Date: 2009-03-18 12:42 pm (UTC)I know! For people like me who learn by doing, it's so much nicer and more fun to be able to actually play with stuff to learn how it worked :D I think that's another reason why the pirate exhibit was so cool--it had the perfect balance of items, signs with descriptions and explanations, and hands-on activities.
