Today was interesting. We all went an entire day--probably about seventeen hours, give or take...without our internet. *gasp* And we were forced to communicate...verbally! With words! Vocal cords! No MSN! *shock* *amazement* *horror*
Okay, now that all you lovely people out there in Cyberland think I am a TOTAL nutcase and should probably grab a toaster and jump into a bathtub in the interest of the gene pool...
Choir tour is that lovely time once a year where we put sixty college kids onto buses and drive all over the Midwest. We perform in various places, don't get enough sleep, learn exactly how long one can stand in high heels before one's feet fall off, and occasionally party with the desert creatures. This year's mission? CHICAGO! WHOO!!! Okay, in truth, tour is for the most part a great time. Hang with the friends, get away from campus, and SHOPPING, natch :)
So Friday we all get on the bus at 7:00...AM. Remember what I said about not getting enough sleep? See, it starts early :) We performed a couple of high schools, and then most of us napped most of the rest of the way to the Windy City. Once we got into the hotel, my friends and I headed to the pool. We even went on an emergency shopping trip earlier last week to acquire appropriate swimwear. Realize that I have not donned a swimming suit for about, oh, a year and a half. Bless Vixie and Jax for shopping with me *schmaks both with loves and kisses* We had a great time. I did manage to give one of the guys a bloody nose--he tried to dunk me, I thrashed, and my knee rather rudely introduced itself to his face *sheepish* But it's okay, nothing broken. We is good :-P We then ordered pizza and hung out in Sage's room for a while before crashing. I crashed HARD.
Saturday morning, we were on the bus at 9:30, bright and early. We had a rehearsal and clinic, and then the afternoon was ours! Well, it was ours once the buses got there to pick us up *laughs* A group of us girls sat on a retaining wall on the corner and made lots of new friends by waving at random cars as they drove by. We Iowa folk are so friendly, don't ya know?
My friends and I went to Navy Pier for the afternoon--I think I burned about ten pounds off from walking alone, and had a great time. We shopped--I only got a necklace. It's a black cord with the symbol for my zodiac sign on it--Scorpio, an M with an arrow of sorts on the tail. It are cute! We had planned to go to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner, but it had closed, so we ended up at Red Lobster. Now there's a tale...
We get there, all seven of us, and the waiter tells us that they have two booths in the smoking section. They're adjacent, so we'd all still be together, so we agreed. What he showed us was a two-person booth, and then one of those big curvy corner ones. This guy obviously didn't know that we routinely squeeze six people into a regular booth in our servery. So the seven of us seated ourselves in the corner booth, and it was actually quite comfy!
And another thing--apparently my voice jumps three octaves or so when I talking to waiters and such. Every time he would ask me a question, the others would snicker when I answered. *pouts* You guys is meeeeeean! Vixie still giggles at the idea. But the food was tasty and the company was excellent. We scampered back to the hotel, where Jax and I decided to treat our much-abused feet to some pampering. We ran some hot water in the bathtub and just let our poor tootsies soak for a while. Then we went to Hoop's room and we all played Apples to Apples for a while. I couldn't keep my eyes open after a while, so I bailed a little early and passed out relatively soon thereafter. BTW--who won the game?
This morning was eeeeeeeeeeearly! On the bus at seven AM. Blech. I don't like mornings. But we drove forty minutes (which most of us spent asleep) to the first church we performed at. They were wonderful! Very friendly people, gave us a standing ovation and then snack baggies and COLD WATER!! They're good--they're very good. The second church we went to was also very nice, but if that guy's sermon went on much longer, I think I would have fallen out of my chair. And then Mrs. K would have done many unkind things to my person ~.~ We made it, and the people were again very friendly. But we changed, loaded up, and hit the road for an eight-hour drive home.
After the lunch stop and everyone was herded back onto the bus...it was very quiet. I don't think ANYONE was awake, and if they were, they weren't moving around very much. Nobody'd gotten much sleep, and a bus ride is the ideal opportunity to catch a few zzzz's, so we zonked. It wasn't until about seven or so that everyone kinda started to come back to reality.
It's funny, but the entire daylight part of the trip was spent sound asleep, but the minute the sun went down, everyone was wide awake! *laughs* We is so weird...but we had a great conversation on the bus back. I got my Music Theory assignment done *gasp, shock, amazement, etc. ad nauseum* It was raining when we finally pulled onto campus, and now I'm safely back in my room, in my own bed, with...homework. Finish a rough draft and get the last of my notes together for my book presentation, then take a quick shower. Then we will see how hard I can really, truly CRASH.
That was a brief description of our voyage into Chicago. Thanks to all my pals for the mega-awesome time. Rock on, guys, rock on! Because tomorrow...we have to go back to class ~.~
