Where does it come from?!?
May. 29th, 2004 08:54 pmWeather. The one thing everyone has in common, no matter where you are. Lately, we've been getting a lot of it.
Let me explain. In Iowa, in the summer, it is not uncommon for storms to just strike. It'll be humid, probably cloudly, maybe a little windy all day, and then as the sun starts to set, boom! Storm. Usually accompanied by thunder, lightning, hail, the works.
Last night, we (meaning my parents and I, as my sister was at work) retreated to the safe haven of the basement and watched the news. A tornado touched down in a town about fifteen minutes away from us, and there was a funnel cloud spotted over the North Side of my city. Plus, a nice big front moved over my neighborhood, in addition to the pouring rain and nice, golf ball-sized hail. And my family, being the incredibly sensible people we are, were the ones standing on our back porch, shouting back and forth to our neighbor (who was also out on his back porch), looking at the sky, going "Ooooooo!"
We're the kind of people who sit on our back porch in our deck chairs during thunderstorms and watch the lightning. Realize that my last night on campus we had a storm, and my friends and I went down to the lake, went to the end of the dock, and sat there, watching the lightning. I'm just one in a crowd of storm-people. I also found out my friend Tori is a stormchaser, so she was telling us all about storms, and pointing out different signs that meant different things were going to happen. It was pretty cool.
But anyway, we've got another one of these delightful little systems hitting us at the moment. I'm enjoying it. I'm actually thinking about going out onto the porch and watching for a while, unless the wind blows the rain back onto me. Then I'll get wet, and I'm not in the mood for that right now. But oh well.
Still waiting for my Fushigi Yugi DVDs to come in, la dee daaaaa...
Oh, and I celebrated (I use that term loosely, heehee) my second birthday on fanfiction.net. Well, technically I'll have been a member of the site for two years as of tomorrow. But I'm just putting everything up and such today so I don't have to worry about it tomorrow. I put up five new posts in honor of the occasion, which is pretty big for me. I don't have much time to write as of late, but last night, I was in the zone. I just got going, and kept going. It was fun. 'cept now I probably won't be able to write for weeks. *shrug* Meh. Oh well.
Signing off for a while, gotta go watch the storm, don't ya know!
Luvs, kisses, and illegal herbs,
Candy-chan ^_^
