Ugh...dun wanna get up at eight AM on a Sunday...mmmph...

Actually, we'd planned this--Mom and Dad and I went to breakfast at Hy-Vee (aka the grocery store where I work, even though I'm done with working regular hours WHEE!), and then went grocery shopping. The only reason I really went along was because I wanted to get some stuff to make lunches for the rest of the week. I gots good stuff :D

Then we headed over to J.C. Penny's. Over breakfast, Mom had mentioned something in an echo of a thought I'd had a few days ago: I'm moving into the professional world (EEP!), so should I get a briefcase or something? So we headed over to luggage. This will probably mark the first time in my twenty-one years of life that my mother has uttered the phrase, "Don't worry about the cost." I wound up picking out a nice leather one--plenty big enough to hold my music, notebooks, etc. It was originally $120 (which made me go ACK and prompted my mother to utter the aforementioned phrase), but it was on sale for seventy. Not bad at all!

Then we wound up in the clothing department. I've been trying to build up my wardrobe with a few more "I'm an adult, take me seriously" outfits, but I needed a couple shirts. Long story short, I wound up walking away with half a dozen new shirts AND two new pairs of slacks. For someone like me, who is very hard to fit, that is quite an accomplishment ^_______^ So I think I'm sitting very pretty when it comes to professional clothes that I can wear to student teach--seriously, I am in love with my burgundy suit. I really am. I think I will wear it to initiate my student teaching on Tuesday...

We also stopped at Walgreen's because Dad insisted that I needed a lunch-bag, so we got one, and then I got a new travel mug because let's face it--an hour-long commute that requires me to leave before seven AM? Coffee. Coffee means caffeine. Caffeine is good. I am going to become a coffee-drinker out of necessity.

Also, I realized that if I just kinda tug on the washcloths I've been knitting, then they do wind up square :D :D :D As you can tell, it's been an uber-smurfy day for me!

Tomorrow I have a meeting on campus about student teaching. How weird is it that I'm more nervous about this meeting than I am about actually starting student teaching? I'm really not nervous about starting at the school--it sounds like they're both going to have me observe and cooperatively participate for the first couple of weeks, and then kinda ease me into it. Plus, High School Teacher says she'll have some music for me to look at to help her students start getting ready for solo/ensemble competition, which is coming up fast.

Part of my nervousness might be that I wasn't aware that I was supposed to go meet my second coop (i.e. the teacher I'll be working with for the second half of the semester) and deliver the handbook BEFORE I started the first half of student teaching. So let's pray that I have an open afternoon sometime before the end of March where I can go meet with this teacher. Because if not, I might be in a wee bit o' trouble >.>

Just occurred to me that I didn't post about my initial meeting with my coops...

The school district I'm working in for the first seven weeks is an hour away from my house, and I was supposed to be there at noon, so I jumped in my car and headed off at about ten-thirty. She invited me to join her and the other faculty for lunch--they do this potluck thing where they each bring a dish and then pay two dollars to eat, and the money goes to Relay for Life.

So I got there early and wound up sitting in the office chatting with the secretary, another teacher, and the principal. Very awesome people--very reassuring, especially when I admitted point-blank that I was nervous. Finally, Elementary Teacher arrived and showed me where the music room was. Then we went to lunch. The faculty there is really awesome, all so nice. It'll take me probably the full seven weeks to learn everyone's names, but that's okay ^^;;

The funniest part? At least three different people (not counting my coop) told me that I was going to have a great time and the kids were all wonderful...just watch out for the fourth graders. O.O;; Greeeeeeeat...

I stayed to watch a first-grade class. They'd earned a game day, so I watched her explain to them about some of the different games, and then she said go...and fifteen little bodies catapulted themselves around the room. I kind of wandered and talked with a few of the kids.

At one point, I went up to the front and drew a picture of a cat on the board. Later, I looked up there again and there were several imitations of my drawing. So cute ♥ Then I drew this little alien thing, and a girl asked me what it was. I replied, "An alien. What do you think I should name it?" Long story short, we wound up naming the alien Ladybug Luslo. I think that's a good name for an alien ^_~

After that class, I went over to the high school--and managed to spend twenty minutes getting lost on the way ^^;; Yeah, I fail at having a sense of direction. But I got there and met with my other coop, High School Teacher. She seems really awesome, and she said she will probably have me working with the solo/ensemble kids, so hopefully I'll get music for that soon so I can start practicing.

They also have a jazz choir, which I was uber-excited for...but they rehearse at seven-fifteen IN THE MORNING on Tuesdays and Fridays. I have an hour-long commute. You can do the math ;o; She's really nice, though--she said I don't have to be there for that the first week, and then after that it's up to me if I want to come up there and see it. I know I want to--it'll just be a matter of hauling myself out of bed at that ungodly hour of the morning.

Oh, and they'll be going to a jazz choir competition. I get to go along :D WHEE!!

So I'm feeling pretty good about the teachers I'll be working with. Now to just survive this meeting tomorrow (why am I so nervous about it??), and I'll be ready to rock.

Oh, and while I'm on the line--[profile] msbbt? Unless you have uber-big plans that you cannot break, you're being kidnapped on Friday night for movies. And possibly dinner. [profile] bishonen_girl and I have decided thus ^_______^

EDIT: I replied to this comment on the anonymous secret meme. Please, whoever you are...let me know that you're okay. Please.
