It has been brought to my attention...
Jul. 19th, 2007 02:13 amSo my sister and I were just discussing the Harry Potter books. And I made the comment that I was still waiting for Mom to give me back the first one so I could get started on rereading them--Mom took them all first, and I told her to pass them off to me when she finished them so I could reread them as well.
Little Sister's response? "Oh, she loaned that to Ashley."
Me: ...Ashley?
Sis: Our cousin?
Me: ...she loaned my book to Ashley?
Sis: Mom couldn't find her copy of the first book, so she lent Ashley yours. I'm sure if you ask her, she'll let you have her copy.
Me: ...Mom doesn't have a copy of her own. My copy is THE copy.
Sis: ...oh.
So in spite of the fact that I have been pleading with Mom to give me back MY books when she's done with them (and as selfish as it sounds, books 1, 2, 3, and 5 for sure are mine, as I paid for them) so I can get rereading...she has instead decided to lend out MY stuff to other people.
Without asking.
Or even telling me.
...am I the only one seeing something wrong with this picture?? Maybe it's just because it's two-thirty in the morning and I'm tired and already cranky because I've been waiting for a week to see this Ghost Hunters episode, only to have a storm come in and scramble our satellite signal ten minutes into the episode so I got to see NOTHING...but I'm really pissed off.
If I loaned out something of Mom's without asking/informing her, she'd be furious. But watch--if I seem the least bit upset, she's going to get angry with me for being a brat and, "It's just a BOOK." I guarantee it. But goddammit, it's the principle of the thing! To say nothing of the fact that I've been begging to have them back so I can reread them before we get our hands on a copy of book seven.
Best part is that Sis swears up and down that I had it, and they lifted up something in my room to find it. So now we're digging through my stuff to loan it out to other people? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??
So now I have to wait to read my own books.
Because apparently it's okay to take other people's things and give them out.
God, I can't wait to move...
