Teaching orientation!
Aug. 20th, 2007 10:03 pmWell...I had orientation at school today. I'm so worn out...but I got really productive near the end of the day! The choir room at the high school is all set up, and I have the seating charts done and I'm piecing together my syllabus for the high school =D
Tomorrow I have professional development all. Bloody. Morning XP And then from four to six-thirty we have "Meet the teacher" night at the middle school. So I guess I'm just going to either toss some nice clothes in my car, or sneak out at three and come home to clean up and make myself look all pretty and not-smelly so none of the parents freak out. I'm actually pretty gross right now because I was hauling chairs around the room and moving furniture--by myself. One of the wheels on the piano kept sticking, too...which meant it was a LOT of fun to shove around.
Oh, and I thought of what I really hope is a creative way to start learning people's names and make the first day attendance-taking a little more interesting. I've always been fascinated by names and their meanings, so I'm looking up the meanings of all my students' names. It's taking a while, but it's all so interesting ~♥
So I need to finish the syllabus and get it printed up...and I really should type up a letter to send out to the parents to introduce myself and whatnot. It's strange, but earlier today I felt like I had a TON to do...and now it feels more like I have a lot of things to remember, if that makes any sense.
And I picked up one of those big desk calenders to put on my desk. ZOMG I'M A REAL TEACHER NOW!! I just need to fill it out and make it all smurfy-looking and whatnot.
Otherwise...I need to dig through the music library and find a few pieces to start the year off. I have twenty-seven kids in high school choir...two of which are guys ^^;; The middle school is a little bit more balanced--I think we'll do some three-part stuff there, at least until I see what I'm working with :)
But I think I'm going to go pop a sleeping pill (I picked some up when I ran to the store earlier), take a shower, and then work on my syllabus until I fall asleep. Or just fall asleep. I'm exhausted...and I have a pretty good chunk of work-time tomorrow to finish stuff up.
