Update for the last couple of days...
Jan. 30th, 2008 11:02 pmWe had an early out yesterday because of high winds. Said high winds knocked out a line, thus leaving a third of the school without power. This included my classroom. It was a very interesting last hour or so--one minute I'm cheerfully cutting stuff out for a bulletin board and listening to a LibriVox recording...and the next my room is dark and quiet.
It was pretty funny, though--I'd just wrapped up a lesson with two girls, and I was back at my desk when I heard my phone vibrating in my purse. But it was the steady, constant hum that means I've got a phone call, as opposed to the single hum of a text message. So I answer the phone and find myself listening to an automated message saying we're getting out at one o'clock. I hung up, turned to my students, and told them. Happy celebrations!
Speaking of LibriVox recordings, I'm currently...hmm, rounding up, I'm almost two-thirds of the way through The Red House Mystery by A.A. Milne--yes, the same gentleman who brought the world the ponderings of a bear named Pooh. Before he wrote Winnie the Pooh, he wrote a LOT of stuff. I'm really enjoying the book. It's an interesting approach to a mystery--I'm wondering if there'll be any major twists. I like twist endings z(^o^)b
I've also become far more enamored of that smilie than I should be. Please send help...
But anyway, after I finish The Red House Mystery, my next book will be The Phantom of the Opera. I was really excited to see that book on the site. It's already downloaded and burned onto disc so I can start on it immediately. After that...I don't know. I need to go through the library and just make a list of ones to download.
Speaking of books, I finally got my lazy bum down to the library in town and got me a library card. And then also have a knitting circle that meets on the first Saturday of every month. So the next meeting is this coming Saturday at noon. The librarian seemed really excited when I asked about it, so it seems very welcoming. I'm going to go check it out.
AND I have also rediscovered SimFarm. This was my favorite of the Sim games when I was a kid (though I was also very fond of SimAnt), but you can't find it ANYWHERE anymore. It's a bit different from what I remember, though. I distinctly remembered being able to grow gladiolas. They were my favorite thing to grow. Not on this version. But it's still fun, and I get to act like a kid because my cows were pregnant *laugh*
fic_off ends tomorrow. I need to finish that last chapter and post it and be DONE WITH IT. *yaaaaawn* But right now I think I need to go to bed...we're supposed to get more snow tomorrow...blaaaaaaah sick of winter want sunshine...
Blargh. I die nao *flop*
