candylandSame-sex marriage legalized in Iowa.
In a unanimous decision from the State Supreme Court, no less. And you know, I'm actually okay with him adding that religion can continue to define marriage however it likes. That doesn't bother me, and I'm sort of hard-pressed to explain why.
I know there's going to be a fight over this before the ink is dry on the first marriage license, but for the moment, let's enjoy the victory for what it is: a step towards tolerance that I would not have expected from my home state, which is traditionally a red state--although we were blue for Obama.
For all the jokes and wisecracks and internet people asking if I have electricity (wish I was kidding about that), I have never been prouder to be from the Hawkeye State than I am right now.
ETA: My thoughts and condolences to the residents of Binghamton, NY, for the massacre that happened in their city and the innocent people who were hurt or killed. May you rise above this tragedy.
