First of all, for those who hadn't heard...

I HAVE BROADBAND INTERNET NOW!!!

*cough* *ahem* Squee! Squee, I say!

Today was an interesting day--we're moving my grandmother and great-aunt down to the city where my family lives. So we were up at six o'clock this morning (I was previously unaware that such a time even existed!) and on the road at seven to a little South Dakota town an hour and a half away. Spent most of the morning hauling a lot of really random stuff out of the basement and into the garage...and then going through everything in the garage. It was also very, very hot outside @_@

We went out to lunch at around eleven. I was starved, but I didn't want to eat too much because of the heat. I was afraid I'd get sick. But then it was right back to work, loading up Dad's truck and the trailer. Everything that wouldn't fit in there wound up in the car with Mom and me. And there was a lot of stuff. See, Grandpa was a Grade-A first degree pack-rat. I don't think he ever threw anything away. And after he passed away (eight years ago, I think), Grandma never touched any of that stuff...which is kind of surprising because she's usually a very meticulous housekeeper.

We left at seven AM, and got home at about three in the afternoon. It's an hour and a half drive each way, give or take. So we had a good few hours of hard work, hauling stuff up the stairs. Then we unloaded it when we got home. I napped for a while in the car, and then I drove part of the way home because Mom was tired.

But it was really interesting, some of the stuff we unearthed. Probably the coolest thing we found was an old shoebox full of pictures and letters. I didn't really realize what we'd found until Dad looked at them and said that one of the people in the picture was Lois's brother. Lois was Dad's first wife, and her brother committed suicide a few years back. So he might send her those pictures. The letters are an amazing find, though--they're all these letters that Dad wrote to his parents (my grandparents) while he was in the Marines. A good number of them were from Vietnam. He said that after he's done looking through them, I can read them if I want. I'm excited to look at them :)

The other cool thing was this old trunk. Grandma was using it to store Christmas wrapping paper and other little things like that. It's kind of old, and it needs some work done on it, but I fell in love with it at first sight, and Grandma said I could have it. I talked to Mom, and she said she'd help me fix it up. It needs to be sanded down, and it needs new hinges and a new latch, and then we're going to paint it and see if we can find a pretty decal to put on the top of it. I'm really excited about it. I think it'll be a fun little project to work on with my mom =3

Well, turning the computer over to Little Sister now. I downloaded the demo of the upcoming Nancy Drew game, and she wants to play. Catch y'all later!

I helped someone move today too! My dad...and OMG I could not BELIEVE some of the pure JUNK that exists in a house. I knew my stepmom was a packrat...but even though they were moving and "starting fresh"...she STILL wouldn't throw anything out. So we just moved the same old JUNK to teh new house, where it will soon clutter and take over. Anyway, yes, it was steamy hot, and I am incredibly dirty, caked with sweat, and I just want to die.

And tomorrow, I get to help my mom's boyfriend move out...but that won't take nearly as long.

Remind me to never let myself aquire so much heavy furniture when I finally own my own house.

Remember to make sure the door hits him on the ass on the way out.

Grandpa is/was the packrat in our family. I mean, according to Mom and Dad, he'd taken some horizontal blinds apart...and then left the pieces stowed away in the ceiling. Just in case. And Mommy says I have trouble throwing things away! I was almost getting sick from the heat, though. It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so hot outside ;_;

Hey Cass--when you have a house of your own, don't acquire so much heavy furniture ^_~

Congrats on the broadband there Candy-chan!
As for the moving of peoples stuff, I did that on June first with some of my friends. I'm still fairly certain it was just a ploy to kill me.
Hope you have a great 4th!

It wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so damn hot outside! Plus, I think Grandma's house is actually a refugee camp for disenfranchised mosquitos...

Have a happy 4th!
