One of my favorite things about camp is definitely eleven-thirty PM.

Why eleven-thirty PM, you might ask? Well, I'll tell you. Eleven-thirty PM is that lovely time when we get the boys out of the girls' dorm. This is a task I personally take on because it's so much fun to walk up and down the hall, bellowing, "All penises must immediately vacate!" I get looks, laughter, and people following me as I meander from one end of the hall to the other.

For the record, the guys generally leave laughing and without problems.

There's a new counselor this year named Ashley who immediately started emulating me, too. I was so proud to watch her walk up and down the hall shouting that room checks were in [insert number here] minutes. Then we stood out in the hallway and sang Jekyll and Hyde songs. Loudly. And people joined in ♥

For those who don't know, midnight means lights out and room-checks here at our camps. Room-check just means that we knock on the door, they open it, we see that they're both in safely for the night, and we say, "Lights out, goodnight." They close the door, and we continue on our merry way.

And every year, without fail, we have at least one student who approaches us as the midnight hour draws near and asks us the following question: "Are we allowed to use the bathroom during the night?"

No, you're not. We provided milk jugs. YES, YOU CAN GO TO THE BATHROOM! Sheesh, we might get you guys on a time-table, but we're not cruel!

Ah, eleven-thirty PM. The time when the counselors are truly in charge. This is the time when we get to play >:D Though in all honesty, we're pretty relaxed. Unless someone's doing something horribly, obviously, glaringly wrong...we're probably just gonna go "Hey, knock it off." And then we'll be on our way.

And always remember Rule #1: Don't talk about Fight Club. DON'T GO TO THE LAKE!

EDIT: My roommate is snoring. Loudly o_O We're talking a sawmill here. Wow...

And ahahaha with the lake~ It sounds like the warning they have at CFUD and d'oh! My back hates me for this computer arrangement :D;;;

It's actually in the college dorms. We host it here on campus :) That's part of the fun--back on the ol' stomping grounds after a two-month absence for most of us ^^

If you say to any BVU music camp kid "What's rule #1?" most will automatically respond "Don't go to the lake." It's an important rule, but it's almost a running joke, really. We love it.

*pats* What's the computer arrangement that your back dislikes you so?

I remember going to basketball camp the summer of my eight grade year. THAT was fun...they put us girls in Neilson Dorms which are the boys dorms up at Tech XDD

Yeah. Know it's gotta be important, but can understand how the repitative nature would stem suchs jokes. (It's like how in band, we'll stand straight for ages, muttering those words that the band director uses dismiss us: "I love ya, get outta here!" XD )

I've got my futon propped up as a couch, have my moniter sitting on a kind of low-ish desk, and I have to lean forward to move the mouse...so yeah...my back hates me~ :D;;;

Camps are fun. I never went to a camp like this when I was in high school, but I do enjoy working them. And next week is the All-State choir camp. WHEE!! That's actually the tougher one. If we're going to have problems, it'll happen at the All-State camp >_>;;

We used to call our band director the Great Balding One because he was, ah, thinning on top. Quite a bit. Good sense of humor, that one had ^^;;

Ack, that does not sound comfortable... >_

Yeah. Camp's are fun. Which is why I want it to be band camp already. D: But noooooooooo, I have to wait until September 1st. *grumbles*

XDD We call our director J-Rob. XDD He likes being called J-Rob. Hell, some people have called him the Papa of the Band, and he just takes the role like he IS our father XDD

Lemme see if I can remember the top 5 quotes of the LA Tech band...

"Do the right thing." - favorite of J-Rob's.

"Podium!" - the band's favorite.

"When in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout."

"I love ya, get outta here!"

...can't seem to remember the last one. *thoughtful look*

...well my back likes it when I lean back against the pillows I put behind myself :D

We had our top Music Theory lines. I think #1 was "FUCK BACH!" Otherwise...let's see here...I guess we excel in dumb jokes. My all-time two favorite music jokes are:

Q: What do you get when you drop a piano on a military base?
A: A-flat major!

*ba-dum ching!*

Q: What do you get when you drop a piano down a mine shaft?
A: A-flat minor!

*is shot*

...*is cracking up at those jokes wtf* Only a person involved with music like us would truly appreciate that kind of humor~

XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

*still cracking up*

Sadly, we don't have jokes like that, I don't think. We tend to be more random and spontaneous with our humor. Though at high school, we had a thing on the wall that said "Music Through the Ages" and everyone said to replace the word "music" with sex everywhere there was something written...and you had some funny perverted stuff right there.

...other jokes...*puzzles* Oooh~ I love our shouts at the refs and stuff at football games and stuff. HILARIOUS.

"ZEBRA! ZEBRA! SHORT AND STOUT! FIND YOUR HEAD AND PULL IT OUT!"

"NUTS AND BOLTS! NUTS AND BOLTS! WE. GOT. SCREEEEEEEEEEWED!"

Oooooh! And the Fireman Song! YES! XDDDDDDD!

I also have a T-shirt that shows an alto clef with the caption "C Clef." Then below it is an alto clef with an eighth-note scale on it: "C Clef run."

We have a lot of random stuff that happens in band, too, but I just don't remember all of it. Jo and I have a running joke (we're the two lovely ladies of the euphonium section) that we sometimes play Hangman during band, and I always try to break Jo's brain (still have yet to match the time when the message was "I like it when boys touch boys." Left that on her Facebook wall, too, just for fun ^^) Pretty sure I'm a horrible section leader =P

Another fun thing to do is to read stuff out loud and randomly add the words "in bed" or "if you know what I mean" to the end of the lines. That gets pretty damn interesting ^_~

...*writes down the Nuts and Bolts thing* Dare I ask what the Fireman Song is? *has already thought of a couple 'pole' comments that could be taken in various directions*

*lol'd at the C Clef thing*

Oh ho! You have a Facebook? I just recently got one during a moment of stupidity >.>;;;

*clears throat to sing*

MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY FATHER WAS A FIREMAN!
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PUT OUUUUUUUUUT FIIIIIIIIIIRES!
HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM!

MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY BROTHER WAS A FIREMAN'S SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!
HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PUT OUUUUUUUUUUUT FIIIIIIIIIIIIRES!
HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMM!

MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY SISTER WAS A FIREMAN'S DAUGHTER!
SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE PUT OUUUUUUUUT--
HUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

There's actually more to it than that, but yeah...the low brass get together at the end of the last quarter during football games if we're winning and do it. XDD They even got the old people who attend the games to sing it!

And whenever we play "Hey, Baby!" our trombone section goes up to a random person in the crowd and basically croons to them XDDD

Band is so much fun~

I caved into peer pressure and registered on Facebook. Wasn't as impressed as a lot of other people seemed to be, but oh well. Mostly, I just use it as a way to leave really random messages on my friends' walls. Poor Jo...

*snickers at song* We didn't have anything like that, but the flag corp had a few running jokes and things that we did. We also had a percussion piece called "Cowbell." After we marched the halftime show, the drumline would play this piece, and the rest of the band would dance--the routine consisted of basically headbanging and shouting "WOOP WOOP" at certain moments. That was the best part of the whole damn game, just getting to headbang around like crazy for two and a half minutes.

Hell, half the parent section would be doing it too! And it was always interesting to see how many people got up and left after the band played. After all--without the band, it's just a game ^_~

Had some interesting show choir traditions, too. I think those'll end up in a [livejournal.com profile] 30_memoirs post at some point--one in particular.

You'd be amazed at some of the rules that have to be made for people. We actually have to announce at every camp that while Rule #1 is "Don't go to the lake," Rule #2 is "No slip-n-slides in the bathrooms."

That's usually followed by a comment to the effect of, "You don't want to know what's been on those floors."

Camps ROCK ^____^
