Jordan and Daniel respected each other, but they did not like each other.

The rivalry had been heated for as long as they had known each other. From the moment the two had first laid eyes on one another, it had been a fierce competition. The air itself had crackled with the ferocity of their glares, signalling the beginning of a long-standing and oft-painful competition.

But today was the match to end all matches. Today, a score would be settled.

They were in the school cafeteria, with almost the entire school watching. Losing this time would mean surpreme humiliation, as their animosity was nothing secret. Such things were low blows for the honor to recover from.

They went at it like cats and dogs, with teeth and claws bared, pulling out every dirty trick in the book in their quest for victory. And through it all, Jordan’s brown eyes remained squared with Daniel’s darker gray ones.

Daniel’s eyes, which had moments ago been intent on the chase, now stared in horror as he realized what had just happened, and what was about to happen. But it was too late. He could only sit in horror as he was soundly defeated.

Jordan leaned forward, grinning in a way that was far too shark-like for comfort. “You idiot,” he sneered triumphantly. “You really thought that you could win? Idiot! Don’t you know that water is weak to electricity? There’s no way in hell your Blaistoise would ever beat my Raichu!”

Daniel couldn’t stop himself. He leaned back in his chair, threw his Pokemon trading cards down on the table, and pouted.
