So...I finished watching Princess Tutu last night.

By the time I got to the last volume, you couldn't have made me turn that DVD off for much of ANYTHING. I haven't gotten that into a series like that since Fruits Basket--during the last three episodes of Furuba, I think they actually had to DRAG me away from the TV to eat. I'm going to try and keep spoilers to a minimum, because msbbt hasn't seen all of it yet, and I'm being good :3 But I think I can sum up much of my feelings in the following...

OH MY GOD!! ♥♥♥♥♥

*ahem* Translation of that is that I was reduced to a squealing, sobbing little fangirl blob on my bed, clinging at my pillow and kicking my legs in the air while I eagerly watched to see what would happen next, and then sighing a satisfied sigh at the very ending.

I don't cry at anime very often. I cry at movies all the time, but rarely anime, for some reason. The only two I can remember crying at off the top of my head are Fruits Basket and Fushigi Yuugi. During the later, for some reason it was Hotohori that did it to me *shrug*

Princess Tutu? I wept. Like a baby. I got really teary a couple of times, but I had tears running downing my face for most of the last volume--ESPECIALLY episodes 24-25. I couldn't stop crying!! Especially during the underwater scene between Ahiru and Fakir, where she's freaking out...ZOMG ANGST. And I don't know how that scene kept from being melodramatic and cheesy--it was beautiful.

msbbt? You think you like Fakir now? Juuuuuuust wait. The love will grow! You said you weren't too keen on Mytho, but you couldn't actively dislike him yet because of his situation? Well, to be honest...something does happen with him, and it's really interesting, but...I can't decide if I like him or not O.O It's really weird.

But you know who I really really really reeeeeeeally like? Take a look at that adorable little person on my icon (I just uploaded a bunch of Tutu icons). That little person is Uzura. And Uzura has officially won my heart. I found myself becoming quite fond of Edel, and I totally fell in love with Uzura. I think the loving part happened around the time she was running around, banging on her drum and singing "Lovey-dovey donkey-lonkey!" over and over again. And then...wow. To have that much development with such a tiny character.

When Uzura and Edel were talking? That was when my waterworks started going full-force. And then that scene between Uzura and Ahiru on the riverbank? T____T I LOVE UZURA, AND I WISH MORE PEOPLE MADE ICONS OF HER!! I found two...I really want one with her marching along with that drum and singing her lovey-dovey donkey-lonkey song. ANY TAKERS?? :D?

The ending...the only way to describe it is "bittersweet." And if it were any other series, the ending might have made me angry, just with the way things worked out. But for this series? It WORKED.

I still hold that Kraehe is the only person in anime who can wear a tutu and toeshoes and still manage to a badass. And msbbt? Wait until you see what happens with her. COMPLEX VILLAIN LOVE AHOY!! :D :D :D

Honestly, that's a lot of what really sucked me in--the characters. I love characters who are unique (we have a lot of that), and I love characters who develop and change as the series progresses--we have a LOT of that. Even minor characters get to grow. It's sort of sad how in some ways Princess Tutu herself is the least interesting character (especially when compared with her alter ego), but even she gets to develop as she grows into her role.

On top of everything else, it's just such an overwhelmingly beautiful series. The animation, the music, the themes...granted, I am a classical music nerd and I was a ballet dancer myself for a number of years, so I have a heightened appreciation for such things. But it's all just so lovely.

And I was watching the ADV release, which had lots and lots of special features so I could continue to be a very happy Candy-chan and regale myself with fun stuff. Chris Patton is a potty-mouth, in case y'all didn't know ~♥

I could probably rant a LOT longer, but I gotta go change and get to work pretty much ASAP. Here's hoping that other girl shows up tonight so I don't have to go back in...but yes, Princess Tutu is glorious, and msbbt, I DEMAND that you watch the rest of it as soon as possible so that we may discuss and squeal.

I agree... Mythos is kinda- meh... I think I was the same with the "like? dislike"

I was WAY too distracted by Fakir the whole time to even really notice blondie anyway XD

And I think thats why I love the series so much too... the way it goes from a somewhat normal magical princess/shard finding series... (mind you still unique and awesome and different but theres a base there) and then BAM complex angsty warped fairytale deep anime... with an amazing, powerful, and tearyeyed ending

Not to mention anything that can make me weep for a longwhile gets put on favvys list XD

Mytho I can really take or leave, although he is a major part of the story and what happens to him at the beginning of "season two" was actually a pretty damn good twist, in my humblest of opinions.

Fakir, I adored pretty much from scene one--mostly because I figured (correctly) that there HAD to be something more behind the jackass he was initially ^_^;; And I think Fakir has joined my list of favorite characters EVER...right above Kraehe and right under Uzura. I'm sorry, but that little imp just stole my heart ♥ (Note to self: make official list of favorite characters ever!)

That was sort of the impression I had when I started watching it--about it being yet another a magic girl series. But I'd been told that it was amazingly awesome. And they were all right :3 So glorious...

Trust me. You are going to fall in love with Fakir over and over again. And also Uzura. Trust me. Again. YAY WE BOTH GOTS FAKIR ICONSES!! Yours is smexy. Mine is just funny :D

Hmmm...we'll figure that all out after you see the actual ending. And maybe I just hit my head or something, but what was our ending? o.o *feels silly*

I really want to watch the last two volumes with you and bishonen_girl, just because I want to see the reactions when everything starts happening liek whoa. So we might have to make a plan to do that before I move, zura! :D :D :D

...I really don't see how that's possible. And of course mine is smexy! I made it ^^. Although, I must disagree with your icon. That's where I screamed and had to pause it so I could hear what people were saying whenever I started breathing again ^_^

XDDD Well, Mytho... I don't remember, Kraehe took over the world, and Fakir and Ahiru got married and had a million mutant babies that were all Superman.

But I wanna watch it now!! Actually, I've been thinking of picking up Ahiru at Brawl >.> So I need to know more about her maybe! Or at least think up a good journal name for her. And find a Fakir cause we might have a Drosselmeyer, OMG yay

*giggle* It's a really nice icon =P I do like Fakir a LOT. I'm just...not sure if I like him more than Uzura =^^= I'm hoping you'll understand why when you see Uzura.

Tomorrow, we'll watch as much as we can (at least two more volumes), and then hopefully sometime next week I will make with the kidnapping of you and we will watch the final two volumes so you can see why I'm so worked up.

I go to bed...well, pretty much whenever I feel like it ^^;; I can't always be online, but I can definitely get on AIM via my cellyphone. The sucky part is that while I'm having trouble falling asleep, I keep waking up at eight or eight-thirty AM ;o; *clings to pillow*

I haven't seen the ending, but being the ending-ruiner I am I've read up on it. I was ballin' my eyes out just from episode descriptions!

I'm usually a little bit of a spoiler junkie, but for this series I actually managed to resist, and it was well worth the effort to not let myself go read all that stuff online :D

Yay! There's nothing like the end of a good series. I got all weepy during the end of Fruits Basket too. I should probably get around to watching Princess Tutu, ...too. *laugh*

I didn't actually get weepy at the end of Fruits Basket--it was the episode about Momiji and his mother that made me go WAAAAAH!! Tutu...I think it was most of the last two volumes ^^;;

You need to watch it! Then we can fangirl together! :D

I got teary at the Fruits Basket finally but I nearly sobbed with the Momiji episode (don't even get me started about how I got over the manga) and of course the one with Hattori and the girl he was in love with. It was so sad.

I have a special place in my heart for Fruits Basket--it was my first real anime ~♥♥♥ And after a lot of soul searching, I finally decided on Ayame as my favorite character :D
