A while back, I was plagiarized from. Someone took some of my stories (along with [livejournal.com profile] lightbird777's), translated them into German and Italian, and posted them without my knowledge or consent. It went up on the community [livejournal.com profile] stop_plagiarism over here, and I thought the issue had been dealt with.

APPARENTLY NOT.

And now it's not just me and [livejournal.com profile] lightbird777 this time around. It's also [livejournal.com profile] ammchan's Shinichi/Ran series for [livejournal.com profile] 30_nights AND [livejournal.com profile] jeva_chan's Shinichi/Ran set for [livejournal.com profile] 30_memories. Plus others.

AND there's also the postings of some Shinichi/Ran fics by [livejournal.com profile] ran_mouri82. Permission to translate those was given--I remember her telling me about it--but they have been posted with no credit or nothing to indicate that Li Ping/Chen06/whichever new handle this person is going under was not the original author.

Mods are being contacted on the various sites, but...it's just frustrating.

ETA: You can keep discussing--I have to go chaperone that dance, so I'll be gone until later tonight.

... WHAT?!

OKAY, I'M ALLOWED TO BE RIGHTEOUSLY ANGRY FOR YOUR SAKE AND PISSED OFF FOR MINE, RIGHT?

... and yet I'm somewhat flattered and yet not.

W-why can't they just aaaaaaaaask? ;o;

As an occasionnal fic translator, I think this kind of behaviour is worth of a mix of tar and feather. X(
Dammit, it's just courtesy to ask permission before to translate...and pretending that you, humble translator, have written the story in the first instance? It's just...GRAH. Xp

(sigh)
Translation should be the fruit of love and respect toward an author, but those spoiled brat seemed to think differently.-_-;

... I-I would actually love for my fics to be translated into other languages, but this way is jusst wrong wrong wrong.

And the worst thing is that I can tell it's my fic in German... that's just... nnnngh... *n-never been plagiarized before, that she knows of*

According to one reader who is fluent in the language, they're pretty much word for word translations, which means they read awkwardly in the new language. They're not even good translations.

Bottom line is 1) she didn't get permission and 2) she's passing these off as her own work. In reality, the translated fics should be posted by the original author, with a credit to the translator.

But even if the original author gives permission for the translator to post it under their username, the fic should be titled, followed immediately by "by original author's name" and then "translated by _______".

This chick is like a plague.

Thank god you saw it! I knew your phone was dead, or else I would have texted you. Was hoping you'd see this D: And yes, I'm pissed off for you and Amm and...hell, everyone.

Let me guess...there's a little part of you that's just the tiniest bit flattered about it, but the rest of you is really pissed off? *pets* S'okay.

Because they are stupid. That's why.

Indeed, not asking permission is an awfull lack of courtesy but it's still forgivable, in my opinion, but refusing to crediting the author, it's not.^^;

(pats you)
Sorry, Jeva, you're one of those author that I would be tempted to translate but...Too much WIP for now...^^;
Maybe, one day...but be patient.XD

Your icon rocks, [profile] candy__chan.

Yeah, it's a little bit flattering but the rest of you feels robbed. Because you have been. That's how I felt then and how I feel now.

... I actually noticed the word-for-word translation. I may not know German, but I'm a French/Spanish major and I remember most of my fics like the back of my hands--especially the dialogue, and they changed NADA. And that just... makes me more sick than anything else. As a foreign language major and a writer, just...

And like I said, I've never been plagiarized before, so I'm kind of sitting here wondering why someone would take my work. I mean, they're really not good enough for someone to pass off as their own.

Then again, considering this chick is a plague to ficcers everywhere (god, I feel horrible for the X-Files fandom with the amount she took from it), she probably doesn't much care which fics she gets to put under her name.

*sighs*

Ahahaha. Well, I could always get around to attempt to translate my fics into French myself, but they're come out horribly basic and whatnot~

And really, it's also like what [livejournal.com profile] lightbird777 mentioned, they didn't even change a WORD. They like... used some sort of Babelfish online translator and POSTED IT LIKE THAT. That is NOT a translation!

... foreign language major is intensely offended by this...

Although I must give her the credit that she did better with the newer translations than with the old ones. Not that they've become good translations, oh no. Just... a little less WHUTTHEHELLISTHAT???!! concerning the grammar.^^; And I'm still wondering why the hell I found one of her rare non-fic posts in a thread where she was seriously asking for a beta...Oo

*hugs* ♥

it is frustrating. *nods* happened to a few friends of mine last year- and a whole journal dedicated to 'reccing' fics, which basically meant copying and pasting fics without permission and credits. @@;;; it was a mess. ><;

She probably bettered the translations in order to make it harder to discover that they weren't hers, but half-assing it never works for anyway and thus she failed miserably.

That and she's done it before so people have been keeping an eye on her.

In short: this chick is a moron. End of story.

...I'm not a foreign language major...but from my personnal experience, a translation worth of this name is more painfull that writing your own story.^^;

In fact, it's writing your own story...but with awfully thin and strict boundaries, and the permanent guilt to betray the original author because you're changing the word to keep the spirit.^^;
(word to word's translation. Ah, just let me laugh, it's not translation for me!Xp /elitist vibes/)
A translation which is beautiful for the reader, could convey the original meaning of the text with every nuance, and would respect the original author's style as much it's possible?
It's a PAIN!
Oh, it's worth of it but it's still a pain. XD;
Translation is an art...but the one who could judge it in a fair way...don't need to read translation.

(cough)
Yeah, end of the translator's wank, but I'm kind of relieved.
After all, it'skind of fair that lack of effort is walking hand in the hand with lack of courtesy in this nasty case.Xp XD

"Ahahaha. Well, I could always get around to attempt to translate my fics into French myself, but they're come out horribly basic and whatnot~"

I've just never been plagiarized before! My fics aren't good enough to be plagiarized for one thing! For another! ...

I'd actually give them PERMISSION if they just ASK and CREDIT me! ;o;

I think I also noticed that most of her older rip-offs have the exact same title as the original fic, whether that made any sense or not. Grammar is for nerds anyway. *shrugs* But it seems like she gives them different titles now, or at least I'm having a hard time to search for some of the fics, and I know that she used one of [livejournal.com profile] ran_mour82's titles for completely different fic bits.

Anyway, she doesn't even seem to bother to be called and caught as a plagiarist, she would at least change her user names otherwise... *headdesks until unconsciousness*

As someone who think his writer's life would be justified once his own story would be worth to be compared to yours, I'm offended by this false statment. Xp

*munches on cupcakes sullenly* She really isn't that bright. Or she really just doesn't freakin' care. And if it's the latter, I want to smack her in the face and demand what I ever did to her because that's just plain insulting. This whole bit. From the horrible translation--if you want the definition to translation, see [livejournal.com profile] randomaicoholic's comment below--to the NOT ASKING ME bit to this final bit where it pretty much does seem like she's saying, "F U, I HAS YUR FICS AND DERE'S NUTHIN' U CAN DU BOUT IT~!"

She's 27. I'm turning 27 this year. The moment I noticed that, I wanted to shout at her GET OUT OF MY AGE GROUP!!!11 No, seriously, when you read the tiny bits she did phrase all by herself (and those never got any longer than two lines at the best), that doesn't make her look bright at all.;>_> Then again, she seems to be Italian who lives in Germany, so maybe this isn't her mother tongue and such and bla? But then, why the hell does she feel like butcheringtranslating anything in German at all???Oo;

Yeah, I know what you and Claude mean, I'm a language major myself and my weekly occupation seems to consist about 60% of translations.^^; And those not even in my first tongue. *sigh*

Oh god, I feel for you. I hate it when idiots like that are in my age group. Mind, I'm 20, turning 21 in August, so there's plenty of idiots out there my age and all.

And I could understand if the translation sucked because it's not her mothertongue. I really really could. I still suck horrendously at French and it's been more of my focus than Spanish has for the past two years. Like I told Claude, if I translated my fics, they would be pretty literally translated and I would have to run to him or Dagron for help, but that IMPROVES your understanding of the other language. Using... effing BABELFISH or something WILL NOT help with that and just... aaaaaaaaaargh...

Haa... yeah. I did a bunch of translations last quarter. Luckily, this one, I'm mostly reading historic French literature and analyzing it. Like a typical English course, only in French. So fun to realize that I UNDERSTAND what I'm reading half the time without having to dive for a French-English dictionary every 5 seconds~ \o\

*gives ya some cookies~*
