Well, I'm officially piecing together all the little bits I've written of Detective Conan: The Musical from last week's [community profile] manycases1truth swap. It's taking a while, but it's getting there. Revelation: there is a reason why I don't do song parodies very often ^^;; They are, in fact, not easy.

So [personal profile] articulation, I'm working on it!! It's just taking a little while =P Will hopefully have it up within the next few days *crosses fingers* The new challenge I've got there is for [personal profile] ytak: a bittersweet fic, featuring Satou and either Takagi or Shiratori. I actually already have an idea, if you can believe it ^_^ Yay for plunnies!!

*points to icon* See the new icon? Finally have one for my namesake! *glomples [profile] msbbt for making it*

Anyhoo, I've been meaning to post this for a while. I wrote this for my Creative Writing class. The assignment was a surreal poem. Not quite sure if this qualifies as "surreal" or not, but it's the most symbolism I've ever indulged in. The thesaurus is my friend!

Over Coffee

I dread it when we meet like this
Yet here I sit, waiting for the inevitable
Why do I submit myself to you and yours?
I need to figure that out
So I can justify tying myself to this rack
You permit me to be mute in your presence
Taking the entire burden of noise on yourself
Then you smile and a gleam appears
In your dark eyes, oily in color and feel
You open that gaping black hole in your face
The one that sucks the cheer from the world
Hands wrapped around warm ceramic
Your crimson claws like blood
Staining the white porcelain—you begin
Another of these one-sided conversations…

“The funniest thing happened last night!
I saw So-and-So, you remember her
And You-Know-Who was there, too!
Can you believe it? Wish you’d been around!
We went to that place, Such-and-Such,
The one you pretend to like so much
With the blue walls and the black chairs
And the droning buzz of the other bees
Humming at each other about their busy days
Over amber-filled glasses
Well, things being how they are
You-Know-Who and So-and-So and I
Dumped our own noisy tunes all over the table
The cacophonous Queens of the hive
Splashing our dominance with the reeking mark
Of ferment and falsehoods
While the common, ignorant little workers
Continued with their monotonous drones
You should have been there!
So-and-So told a joke—you would have laughed
If you’d heard it, but I can’t tell it as well.
You really should have come.”

I swear, you’re speaking another language
The cheerful words sliding creamy-slick
Into the mugs, splashing all over me
Burning and freezing and numbing
My smile is branded onto me
While I listen to you recount your fascinating tale
And I stay still, unmoving, unflinching
While you reach across with comforting hands
Smiling to show off your shark-like bleach job
(Your dentist does very good work)
And drive your loving corkscrew into my gut
Twisting, twisting, turning
Expressing your pity for my shortcomings
By drilling deep down for my life oil
And instead hearing the hollow, ringing echo
As you penetrate nothingness
Leaving only your words to chisel
Grotesque sculptures from what was once trust
As I sip at icy bitterness, sweetened
By sacchirine smiles and false reassurances
Thinking back to my big evening
A night curled beneath the cover of darkness
Unable to even see the stars
Wandering a field of solitary silence
Making love to my computer screen
Enjoying the cold companionship of
A digital deck of cards
And wondering where everyone is
