...or, my first time donating blood :3

I did not sleep well last night--massive insomnia. Got about three hours of sleep, so of course I was just a ray of sunshine when Mom woke me up for our eight AM appointments at the blood bank. So I yanked on some clothes and toddled out to the car. When I got there, I had to fill out paperwork and all that stuff, and they did the test to make sure my iron count was high enough. It came back as a 41, which is plenty above the required number. No health problems or risks, so I was good to go, if a little nervous.

When I got into the chair, one of the nurses told me that because my iron count was so high and because of my height (five-foot-eight), if I wanted I could donate blood cells instead of just a regular blood draw. Apparently it's sort of unusual for women to have that kind of iron count. But yeah, kind of a "U HAZ IRON AND U IZ TALL. WE CAN HAS UR BLOOD CELLZ NAO?" and me being like "...sure." Turns out that was a mandatory double donation, but I was cool with that.

It was really easy! Barely felt it when the nurse inserted the needle, and then just sat there and went squeezy for about twenty minutes. It actually took less time than she said it would, and she commented that my iron count must be even higher than the test said because it goes faster with more iron XD As near as I can tell, the reason for this is that I eat beef and broccoli at work quite frequently, and both beef and broccoli have lots of iron.

Oh, and the really fun part? They separate the cells from the other stuff and put the plasma back. The thing is that the plasma cools to room temperature. Which was about seventy degrees. Bear in mind that the average human body temp is 98.6 degrees. So the feeling was basically, "Doot dee doo--MY ARM IS FREEZING FROM THE INSIDE OUT!" My teeth actually started chattering near the end ^____^

Then I had a popsicle, and went to spend the rest of my morning/afternoon running errands with my parents! Oh, and Mom and I are going to see Amy Grant in concert. It was sort of a "spur of the moment, let's get tickets!" kind of thing, but yesh, we're going. It's in September :3 I tried to take a nap, but apparently my family thought that "Please leave me alone" translates to "KNOCK ON MY DOOR AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE FOR THE MOST ASININE REASONS YOU CAN COME UP WITH." Including my sister asking what kind of Chinese food she likes. Yes, you read that right.

Work tonight...it sucked. Two-entree meal on special for $3.99...and they scheduled someone from the front. VERY BAD MOVE. BAD MANAGERS. NO BONUS. Or something. But gaaaaaaah the suckage was epic ;o; Didn't help that I feel really drained--I'm thinking the fact that I did a double donation is a big part of that, when added to my lack of sleep.

Oh, and Michael Phelps is our king :D :D :D WHOOOOOOOOOOO! The entire team did an amazing job on that last relay! Even my dad, who is one of those who usually tries to stay calm (except when Nebraska's playing football, but we don't talk about that) was muttering, "Go, go, go!" to himself while we watched. YAY FOR PHELPS!

Friending meme over on [livejournal.com profile] professorlayton. I wish I wasn't so shy about asking people on those things... *is even the OP of the meme, whut* THIS IS WHY I LURK SO MUCH.

Got a bit of a headache now, so I'm going to end THE BORING this post and hit the sack, me thinkest.

You need to see the episode of 30 Rock when Liz (Tina Fey's character) gives blood. Then you'll have found a kindred spirit in your weakness way after XD

I keep meaning to donate blood, but every time a bloodmobile is around I'm under the required minimum weight. :c It's rather disappointing.

Also, MICHAEL PHELPS IS AMAZING. I usually don't care about the summer olympics much, but he's just... wow. *__*

...kinda wish I had that problem sometimes, as I am VERY MUCH over the minimum weight ^^;; But I can understand how that would be sadmaking~

The Olympics (both summer and winter) are actually the only time I really watch sports, every two years. Stuff like this is an added bonus. Phelps is amazing!

I've found that if you donate blood once or twice and then just... don't come in one month, they start calling you. Like, every day. Which I find strangely hilarious, especially considering that I answer every time they call and tell them that I always get turned away now because I'm under the minimum weight requirement, yet they STILL CALL EVERY DAY. But yeah, be careful, because they'll start expecting things from you. xD
Michael Phelps freaks me out. He's inhuman. And yey friending meme :>

Really? I don't expect that they'll be calling me because they told me that since I did a double donation I can't donate again until December. Every...fifty-six days for a regular donation, I think? And...I must be the only one not under the minimum weight *h-hides, orz*

I just think it's cool that he broke a thirty-year-old record. I like stuff like that =D Plus, that one team relay where they won by a good five seconds? I laughed. Loudly \o/

DUU EET! Have your arm go freezy and then tell me about it! :DD Because it's not painful or anything. Just sort of ZOMG WEIRD feeling~ Thanks!

Hey, Great Britain is the only nation to win a medal (or was it a gold medal) at every single modern Olympics, and one of only five nations to have attended every single set o' games. You guys are no slouches! *salutes* But yeah, Phelps rocks! ^__~

I always get so shy around friending memes... *pokes fingers together*

Michael Phelps FTW.

Ooh. Donating blood...I find it scary, I've never donated blood (I don't think I'm old enough, either) but I really respect those who do...^^.
