A couple days ago, [livejournal.com profile] ickaimp made a post about things in daily life being magical. I don't really get a lot of that most days, and what I'm about to post about isn't so much fantastic as it is just...really sort of amazing.

My parents and I are big fans of this artist, P. Buckley Moss. They say if you have twelve prints by a given artist, you are a collector. We have...probably inching close to thirty prints of various sizes. One of the things my parents like about her is that she has a lot of prints that feature two girls--which makes them think of my sister and I. She's also done some with buildings from UNI, which is Mom's alma mater. All her work is just lovely.

Well, she was doing a signing at a gallery in a city a few hours away, and my parents went with my aunt and uncle (who also love her work) to get some prints signed. They could each take two. Dad took this one landscape of hers that he just loves, and then I chose the painting she did In Memoriam, 9/11. Aside from it being beautiful, it just felt like that one should be signed. And Mom chose this really pretty one of tree branches in winter (the print by itself is lovely, but our framing and matting job brings it out), and then she took this other one for my sister...

First of all, Bug has always had an affinity for teddy bears. Cute things in general, but bears in particular. She actually has a teddy bear she got for Christmas one year named Holly. To this day, I don't think she can sleep without that bear--which is not really unusual. But this picture is of a little girl with long dark hair in a blue dress with teddy bears around her. She's sitting with one foot on top of the other, and her hands folded in her lap. Mom said that Bug used to sit like that all the time when she was little because she was so shy.

So they went and got them signed, and Dad was explaining to her about how they had picked that one because it reminded them of their younger daughter. And Moss asked what her name was, and wrote my sister's name above the painting in pretty gold script.

Then my parents were looking through the art in this gallery. And they found another print: this one is of a girl, brown hair, sitting in a field of tall grass and wildflowers. The title: Lindsey. Which is my name, spelled the way I spell it. And I love flowers and gardening...and playing in the dirt.

This was a limited print, and Mom has been looking everywhere for it with no success. So she knew she had to get that print. And Moss, the artist, told the woman at the shop to cut a piece of glass for it, the same size as the one in the frame over the teddy bear print that we affectionately say is my sister.

And she signed that one, and wrote Lindsey above it.

I know it's not really magic, but it made me happy. We're going to the store tomorrow to look at frames and mats for it because Mom doesn't want anything to happen to that glass. We know we want to get the mat in the same shape as the bear one so we have them match.

And I suggested (and I think Mom agreed) that it would be sort of cool to hang those on the wall over the couch. Our senior pictures are hanging there, my sister's and mine, with two Mosses in between them. I said we should put the ones signed with our names in between our senior pictures. It would be a nice touch.

...this all just makes me very happy :)

Now, that's just cool. Clearly these were created for the two of you, whether or not the artist knew it. ^______^

Magical, as defined by the New Oxford American Dictionary, means "beautiful or delightful in such a way as to seem removed from everyday life". With this in mind, I think you're experience is truly magical. :)

But you know what I think? I think everyday can be a little magical, depending on how we look at it. After all, no day is ever exactly the same as one before nor after it, and that would make each moment beautiful, don't you think so? :) People just tend to take things for granted.

Much love! <3

P.S. I'd love to see the works of this artist! It sounds intriguing! :)
