So...friggin...tired...
Nov. 28th, 2008 11:51 pmAll right, so I've been helping my BFF
kaitodoushi clean her room. Sounds a bit odd? Well...we took a few pictures along the way to show you the progress as it was made. I really do wish we had taken more along the way but here. Behold the journey as it has taken us thus far!
We started this project the weekend of my grandfather's funeral, so it's been about a month (give or take). We were doing this in little spurts, when we both had an evening free to get together and dig through stuff for a while. Here is what it looked like when we started...

TWO THUMBS UP FOR STUFF!
Kat poses proudly in her room. At this point, you could walk maybe three feet into the room before you could go no further due to piles o' stuff on the floor. So our first night, the goal was quite simple: GET THE FLOOR CLEAN.
By the end of our first night, we had this:

Y HALO THAR, FLOOR. PLEASED TO MAKE YOUR ACQUAINTANCE.
Yes, there was stuff piled on the bed, but overall? You can see the floor!
I did not take any pictures of the next step in our adventure, which was under the bed and getting surfaces cleared off. That was another evening's work. I mostly was the voice of encouragement while Kat dug through her stuff.
Meanwhile, another idea had bitten. Kat's walls were a kind of drab yellow that seemed to suck a lot of light out of the room. The carpet was bright red shag, and the overhead light fixture was not terribly efficient. So the idea came about that maybe we should paint the room. It turned out that a year before, her parents had gotten some light purple paint for her bedroom. So we decided to use that.
Today's adventure...

IT CAN HAS BE PAINTING TIEMZ!
I called Kat this morning to make sure she was awake. I got a rather interesting "Mrrrrgle..." sound in response XD I got there around eight-thirty AM.
As neither of us had ever painted a room before, this turned out to be quite an experience. We hauled everything we could out of the room, and then moved one of the dressers, put tape on the appropriate places, and in we went! We also had to make a run to Target. Black Friday is a very dangerous day @_@ Before long, we had this...

MASTER OF PUPPETS, I'M PULLING YOUR STRINGS! PURPLE AND YELLOW ARE COMPLIMENTARY COLORS, AMIRITE?
This is partway through the first coat o' paint. We were really having an interesting time of moving stuff around and jumping over furniture XD I am now an expert on working a long roller. Just so you know. And also climbing on chairs. And taping baseboards. After a while, we got to this:

THE LIGHT IN THIS PICTURE SUCKS, BUT THE WALLS ARE TOTALLY PURPLE
Those are a pair of speakers on the dresser. They're old computer speakers, and we plugged my mp3 player into them and had music. There is something deeply entertaining about painting while singing along to songs like "Cuban Pete" and "Dead Again" and "Still Alive." Bliss ♥

STILL AFTER FIRST COAT, WHEE CD HOLDER
Another angle after the first coat was on the walls. That CD rack got moved around a few times as we were going about things.
After finishing the first coat, it was about two o'clock, so we went in search of lunch. When we got back, we slathered on the second coat. Didn't have to move anything in the room to do it, although I discovered that leaning on a dresser is not a comfortable way to paint up near the ceiling @_@

HEY, DOWN IN FRONT! WE WANNA SEE THE TWO COATS!
After we got the second coat on the wall, we went out into the living room, spread a tarp, and started painting her nightstand, a little wooden thing. I wish I'd gotten a before picture of it, but we just painted it white. Her dad came home while we were going about that, and then her mom came home as we were finishing up the second coat.
And then Mom gave us money and told us to go out for dinner. ILU, MOMMY ♥ So we went out and had a nice dinner :D
When we got back, it was about eight o'clock, and we hopped in the car with Mom and went to Target. We got two area rugs and a floor lamp, and went back to pull the tape off the walls and put the room back in order. This was the best part of the job, what we'd kind of been working towards from the beginning.
This was an interesting experience. First we moved the two dressers back into place again the wall. Then we shimmied the other dressed from the other side of the room, and I do mean shimmied. Took us several minutes to get it along one wall, and then suddenly it's like "O HAY we can lift this now!" so the last few feet went really fast. Then we moved the two sets of shelves out of the way, and turned the bed around (the big part of the job), and wrestled it back into the little indentation in the wall.
Once all the big stuff was in place, we got the shelves against the wall, put her new lamp together, put her chair in the corner, and voila! We were done!
And so,
kaitodoushi's room went from this...

*STRIKE THE VOGUE*
...to this!

OH. EM. EFF. GEE.
That's right! I have no idea what that blue glowing smear is, but it just started popping up in the pics, so I ignored it. Figure it's a trick of the flash or something. And here, have a few more shots~

IS A BED, AND A SHINY PAINTED NIGHTSTAND!

THE BACK CORNER, AND CHECK OUT THOSE SNAZZY AREA RUGS!

DAMN THAT IS A SEXY LAMP :O
And that was the end of the night for me XD I am still rather covered in paint (the bottoms of my feet are purple!), and I am totally exhausted, but it was actually kind of fun to do. There's still work to be done, but overall? I think it looks a hell of a lot better ^_~
Tomorrow I work from nine to four, and then I have to crank out seven thousand words in two days to beat NaNo because I did not write anything today @_@ Whoops. But now, I am off to shower and then sleep for as many hours as I can before I have to go earn a paycheck.
G'night!

You have the space on those shelves, and there'll probably be a bit of extra drawer space, as well as having storage space in the closet once that gets gone through. I don't think you'll be short on space to put things :D(no subject)

Probably easily if the bunnies are biting. I'd be glad to help if you need it ^_^

Date: 2008-12-01 08:36 pm (UTC)The lamp was a brand new purchase. We saw it at the store for relatively cheap, and it was like "KAT! YOU MUST HAVE THIS!" Her room's kind of dark, so it helps with that as well :)
