Weather woes D:
Dec. 19th, 2008 12:37 amSo the new LJ profiles. It really didn't bother me that much when they changed the look of the things. To me it was more of a "Why are we fixing that which is not broken?" thing, but whatever. It was organized neatly enough, and everything seemed to be orderly. However, this leaves me a bit baffled as to why my IM info (which, to my mind, is majorly important contact info) is stuck down underneath my interests, where you have to hunt for it. We have gone from "Fixing something that ain't broke" to "Now we're just closing our eyes and throwing darts at the board."
*deluding self that people want to talk to me, shh~*
Anyway, the real point of this post is the weather. I know
magic_truth was all stoked because they had snow out in California (ILU ~♥♥♥) And now it's Iowa's turn (again) to get spanked with the Bad Weather Paddle.
My sister had to work tonight, and she wasn't getting home until around midnight. The snow started at eight-thirty-ish, was going in full force by probably ten-thirty, eleven-ish. My car was in the garage. Since I don't work until ten tomorrow, we were just going to switch cars around before I left. So imagine my surprise when I was finally starting to doze off, and my cell phone wakes me up. It's Bug, demanding that we switch cars now.
I walked into the garage, opened the door, looked at the snow, and went "Oh, hell no."
Long story short, she got stuck on the hill. We wound up having to wake up Dad to go get in her car and get it into the driveway. He had to back up, all the way down to the other end of the block (where it levels out) and gun it. It took him two tries to turn the car into the driveway, and he nearly skidded off onto the lawn in the process.
...so I might not be going to work tomorrow. My manager is a pretty good guy, and he knows I live in a hilly area. And I'm a really hard worker. I'm usually there on time, I do my job, I try to be pleasant and cheerful, I don't make trouble...so I'm ninety-nine percent sure that if I call into work as being "snowed in" or say I'm going to be late, I'll get a pass. We'll see what it looks like nine hours from now.
In the meantime, here! Have two pictures!

This is my Dad's truck, covered with snow.

This is the front porch of our house, nearly buried by the snowdrifts. For reference, the top of the concrete stoop is about 12-13 inches (30-33 cms) tall, give or take.
I was tagged on this meme where every day for eight days, you have to post something that made you happy. So here's mine for today: LUNCH. Chong made us this stir-fry for lunch with shrimp and snow-peas, and oh my goooooood it was so good! Oh, and I got some of my backlog o' fics posted on ff-dot-net, which is also happy-making! \o/
