I need to stop reading [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets.

Because right now, I think I might actually hate my fandom.

Apparently, writing gen-fic for a rather awesome game makes me a pedo. Who knew?

And yes, I am taking this too fucking personally. Srs bsns and all.

ETA: ...and now I've calmed down, and OP is a good person.

I don't like shouta. No offense to anyone who does (I try not to smash on other people's ships when I can avoid it) but I really don't like it.

...and I'd really like to know where the OP of that secret was even looking. I know of two artists who draw it, and I think there was one fic on the meme. That's all that I'm aware of.

That's always been my philosophy on fandom, I guess, since shipping is such a big part of it. Ship and let ship. If no one's bashing my pairings or characters, I'll happily return the favor ^__^

i'm fine with shota if it's just snuggly cuddly stuff but ':/' at actual...you know, shipping. I just don't like it, though if people do, hey, go for it!

But gfhgfhgf the general fandom's attitude IS GEN what the HELLLL

I just tend to avoid shouta, more or less. It's just not my bag. I've said this to pretty much everyone else (repeating comment is repeating), but the lack of qualifying evidence from any of the posters blows my mind.

Even in the OP's apology, they basically said that they assumed the fandom was shouta. And for some reason, then decided to make a secret accusing everyone in the fandom of being all about the shouta. Without really even giving the fandom a look.

And someone else said they were mourning the "perceived" fact that they wouldn't have a fandom to join because they THOUGHT it would be shouta-riffic.

...DOES NOT COMPUTE. Geez, people, look at a fandom before you start slinging stuff like that around. Especially in a place as public as F!S.

Happy father-son stuff makes me smile, though. Which a lot of the fandom likes. Along with Luke/Flora, which is NOT shouta because they're, what, a couple of years apart? (Did we ever come to a consensus on how old Flora is?)

It's funny(well, sort o...), I've seen a rant with the EXACT same kind of content, nearly words for words, on fanficrants, few hours ago... It should be still on the front page, in fact.

(pats)
If you haven't a reason to feels included by the people (s)he criticize, you don't have to feel bad.
And if you know, for a fact, that (s)he's making unfair generalisations/ groundless assumptions, well, just laugh or shakes your head.
This moron is isn't worth of your times.

...that being said, it's kind of relieving, it shows that, compared to some people, I'm not so prone to makes generalisations about my fandom that I've previously thought. XD;

Yeah, but most of the people on f!s, when asked, couldn't qualify the statement. Had absolutely nothing to back up their opinion. They saw the characters, and assumed. This included the OP, who basically said as much in their apology. And based on this assumption, they branded an entire fandom as pedos.

Lovely, huh?

I can see why they think that, with the ferris wheel scene being the but of so many jokes on other gaming forums. Then there's those other sites which I won't talk about. D: But that doesn't make all of us pedos sdfjkk. But it was a honest mistake, and I'm glad it's cleared up now!

*snerk* The Ferris Wheel of Doom? That's the most epic part of the game! *has two icons of it, yey*

I appreciated the apology, as did most of us. It's just mindboggling to me that most of the statements of agreement (as well as the OP's apology) all seemed to say that they just assumed, without actually looking at the fandom. You know what they say about assuming.

You make as ass out of Uma Thurman. Or something...

Awww sweetie *hugs* its just one person >> It is the reason I tend to never ever read stuff like that... and I hate to over hear things-- because I fall to pieces so its just easier not to know... because in my experiance theres always someone who wants to ruin it for everyone else.

And they apologized, which is good. Although the apology made me go "Whut?" because they actually said that they didn't really even look at the fandom. They just figured that's how it was.

And then made a secret about how everyone in the fandom was all about shouta. Which people agree with, though no one can actually explain why aside from saying, "Well, I assumed by looking at the main characters."

I'm trying to put two and two together here, but I keep winding up at thirty-six, ya know?

Well, at least they apologized. That's good. :)

I will admit, I was so certain there was going to be rampaging shota, I almost didn't join the fandom. I am so glad I did. <3

That's what's baffling me the most. As I'm skimming the comments, no one's giving any actual basis for this assumption. And when people are asked to justify it, most can't seem to. It really seems like more of a "Well, I looked at the characters and assumed" kind of thing.

Which is blowing my mind.

I was rather worried because I was first linked to Layton_Luke off of Court Records, rather than the main comm. Not to mention I hung out on Tegaki for a while, and got linked to a japanese fansite that... yeah, that was rather unpleasant.

I actually avoided [livejournal.com profile] layton_luke for a long time because I was so desperately in love with the father-son relationship between them, and I sort of held that as sacred. Then the deities of Level-5 gave us Legal, and...yeah, the rest is learning from history XD

Our fandom just likes us some crack and fluff! :D

I sure as hell didn't join this fandom for the shota (though idk if Le/La counts :/)

also true, the majority does more gen than anything else, really. But, it's other people's opinions. Let's just all get along, shall we?

I wonder where she was even looking. |D

Icon match for the win :D

I certainly didn't either. I joined because I loved the relationship between Luke and Layton (having always been a sucker for friendshipping and teacher-student or father-son relationships). And that's the big reason I'm still here. Because I still love it :D

That's the thing--no one seems to be able to point to it. Not even the people who were agreeing or saying that they'd "heard that." So I don't know.

The OP was wonderful enough to apologize for the uncharitable and offensive generalizations, so it's over and done with. After I stopped being irate, it was more just "What the hell...?"

it's a case of "noise from one or two" people in the fandom being shouta and obsessing about it which causes people to think like this.

Really it's a proven fact, if -any- community has just -a few- people going on and on about a shouta pairing, SOME people will see it and assume the whole community is like it.

I just say don't let it bother you, some people ar idiots and believe narrow-minded ideals.

... Um, gee.

**headdesk.**

It's good that she apologized, but so brain-breaking to randomly decide that the whole fandom is shouta because of the characters. .___. Whut.

I tried looking at Fandom Secrets once or twice, but it was taking too long to load on my poor computer and I wasn't that impressed with the concept anyway. XD;
