candyland: (DO NOT WANT)
[personal profile] candyland
So three days into my diet/exercise regiment, and we're already facing DANGER, WILL ROBINSON.

When I went into work this morning, first thing I was told was "Here, have some cake!" And then one of them looked all shocked when I said no. She also looked surprised when I said I was swearing off eggrolls and crab rangoons until further notice.

Dad had to stay late at work tonight because of some mix-up with the gas getting shut off for repairs and not getting turned back on and they were all freezing, so we didn't get to go grocery shopping until later. So Mom said, "Let's all just go out for dinner!" One Red Robin burger and way too many fries later, we made it to the store.

Haaaaaaalp...

Kind of wishing my computer would stop freezing up. I wish I knew what was making it do it. To be honest, it hasn't been the same since the night [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi and I tried to play Portal on it. It's really annoying D:

I haven't written a word all day. I need to get back in the habit, really. Taking a hiatus at the end of December made me all lazy and stuff. Which is sad because I have more ideas than I know what to do with at the moment.

On a completely related note--[livejournal.com profile] yamazaki_inc? STOP GIVING ME FIC IDEAS, CURSE YOU! *shakes fist*

Oh honey, I feel your pain. I get a lot of that now (and especially before I had my surgery).

Helpful tips for dieting! ...That you've probably heard a million times. Trust me, these work and you won't starve yourself:

*drink lots and lots of water
*carry gum with you. whenever you feel that "I'm craving something" feeling, pop the gum into your mouth. You won't want to eat anything 'cause of the minty goodness.
*Eat the kiddie meals. Comes with less fries.
*If you don't get the kiddie meals -- or even if you do -- try to leave just a little bit on your plate.
*Speaking of plates, use smaller ones when you eat at home. Your mind still goes, "Oh, empty plate, I'm full!" but your stomach's only half-full.
*DON'T FEEL GUILTY FOR CHEATING. Sometimes you end up going to Red Robin for dinner or you want that piece of chocolate cake, God damn it. Just don't beat yourself up over slipping up. You have to spoil yourself every once in a while.

I agree with the last one, shouldn't kick yourself too hard if your keep working at it and only eat fatter crap once in a while. Also, what you drink can make a -huge- difference to your weight, alot of my old clothes are to big since I stopped drinking soda and just drank water instead and thats the ONLY change I did too.

I've been told this by a few people--about the soda, I mean. And I think I'm going to make that commitment and give it up, at least for the duration of this challenge.

I love your icon ♥

...these are all amazingly awesome suggestions, and a couple of them I'd never really thought of *makes notes* I'm definitely going to try some of these. Thank you!

Something really simple that's holding off the sugar cravings: I have a little box on my desk. And in it are wrapped pieces of dark chocolate. I get to have one a day. Keeps my sweet tooth in line pretty well without me going overboard :D

Good on you for having the self-control. A little award every day is wonderful.

Of course, sweetheart. I feel your pain, and anything to help out a friend. ^__^ And like I said, I'll be your biggest cheerleader!

Hrm, I can't help you with the dieting thing. But your computer problems interest me. Warning: Computer Science major at large! When was the last time you defragmented and ran a disk cleanup on your computer? If that doesn't work also try a cache cleaner.

Aww, it's okay~ Thanks, though!

Yay Computer Science Major Person! \o/ (Makes you sound like a superhero :O ) I run disk cleanup pretty regularly. Last time I went to manually defrag, it said that it was on an automatic schedule. I'll run another one, just to be sure. And I recently ran a cache cleaner.

The problem seems to come up the most when I have Media Player running. That would work for a while, and then the computer would go all ice age on me.

I sympathize. My pants are too tight around the waist and I don't want to go buy new ones (must save money). So, that means cutting back on some food (and eating healthier) and exercise.
The downside is that -everything- sounds good and I'm craving things I don't normally eat.

Maybe your computer needs to have something like Spybot Search and Destroy run on it? Spyware and those things can slow down your machine. And defragmenting is a good thing to do regularly.

I've noticed that too. Now that I'm swearing stuff off, it all looks so good ;_; But I'm finding little ways to cut back and curtail the cravings. One little piece of chocolate a day is actually all it's taking to keep my sweet tooth happy, surprisingly.

I run Ad Aware now and then as well (need to do that, now that I think about it). The problem seemed to start when I tried to update a driver. Never had a problem before that. After that, it just randomly freezes and blue-screens D:

If you aren't eating a lot of sweets, a little -does- go a long way. I've noticed the same thing.

Eh, not good. Good luck fixing it.

Since my handle came from a joke about my sweet tooth, suffice to say that not eating stuff like that is a bit of a change for me *laugh* But it's amazing how one piece can calm it down most of the time.

Thanks ^^;;

*snicker* One piece at a time does make you savor it, though. And you also learn the difference between cheap chocolate and -good- chocolate.

Erm, not to counter the argument, but calories are actually a good thing, as long as you keep up exercise and don't overeat and such, they get used up providing energy and thus don't get converted to fat.

Something else I've found out while learning about healthy eating.. it's actually better to eat smaller portions more often surprisingly, so grab some snack food (fruits and veggies are always good ideas) that is healthy and portable and carry it with you so that when hunger strikes, you can pull it out, snack while you're working, and then put it away. I think the thinking behind this is that your body doesn't think you're going to starve it, so it increases metabolism to where you have the energy when you need it.

The things you learn from college courses can sometimes have unexpected uses :) some of it surprises you

Also, it's not exactly a bad thing to treat yourself every once-in-a-while, food is good. It just means you need to pay attention to yourself and don't make it too often.

As for the computer issues, I sympathize. I gather too many anime subs and can't get them transferred to CDs fast enough. I can't even run defrag on my drives right now they're too full.. too much good anime out there, not enough time to enjoy them all >.<

I can't really suggest anything that hasn't already been suggested.

I know you need a certain number of calories to function, just like you need a certain amount of carbs and protein. It's more a matter of limiting, rather than eliminating. Which is where my problem lies, since I have a million bad habits and a bad addiction to things like fast food and the like.

I've heard some of that, but not all of it :O I think I'm going to try packing some carrot sticks or an apple or something when I go to work, just to have something to munch on. Might make me less likely to chow down on Chinese food. Thanks for the tips!

My computer has been wacked ever since a driver update D: I know no more than that~

*squish* Thank you! ♥

word of the day: Moderation :p seem to be using it a lot in responces heh.

Health teachers were a sports coach and a nutritionist, so I feel safe enough helping out with health knowledge when I can. Being a 90lb male in HS was not comfortable, but it gave me a drive to learn about healthy stuff that everyone can use. I like being a walking brain-sponge, gathering up knowledge and spouting it off where it's helpful ^_^

sees 'Dilbert' comic, walking sponge, when you poke it, spouts off randome bit of knowledge.. last panel, it sees Alice and tries to hide XD.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver? might help with the speed issues, if you're not the only one who's had the problem, maybe they've come up with an update that fixes whatever it did to screw up the computer?
