I am hereby making a commitment. For the duration of the Live Healthy challenge, I am swearing off pop. Exception will be if we go out somewhere or something like that, since that's a once-in-a-while thing. Coffee, tea, and water from here until mid-April. Mostly tea and water.

I'm also hereby vowing to start packing carrot sticks or apples or something to take to work for snackage, and try to not eat much of the actual Chinese food at work. And I'm going to force myself, come hell or high water, to spend at least twenty minutes a day doing some form of exercise. Tonight, I did about twenty-five on the treadmill and ten on the weight machine, but it's hard to use the weight machine when I have to keep shifting a bookshelf around--we moved it in there to get it out of the way during the Big Bathroom Overhaul.

If this is going to work, I've gotta make the change. So I'll be posting little updates here with exercise times and things. It might be boring, but if it's kept public, I think I'm more likely to stick with it.

Speaking of work...I've mentioned my one co-worker before? The one who really needs an off-switch for her mouth? Well, today she actually managed to floor me when she took my arm and patted my hand and told me, "Nothing would make me happier than seeing you and [Manager] start dating."

*BRAKES SCREECH*

She kept patting my hand and going on about how I would be a good wife and a good mother someday, and he's the kind of man who would treat a girl right and he's so nice and he's only thirty-three, ten years older than me, that's not that much, and she's going to ask him if he's seeing anyone--

*BRAKES SCREECH AGAIN*

Okay, Manager is a nice guy. But in terms of romance, I'll pass ^^;; Not looking, not interested...quite frankly, dating and getting married is right above "Scheduling a dentist appointment" on my priority list. Which should tell you my feelings on going to the dentist. I think I got her to understand that I'm really not interested in dating right now. I hope I did. And judging by the laughter upon hearing this tale, I think [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi got a kick out of the "You gotta hear this!" phone call she received upon my leaving work.

And now, some thoughts on Escaflowne~

I'm...trying to like it, guys. I really am. I want to. Especially because it seems so many of you recommended it so highly. I care about the characters, and I want to be really engrossed in it. But I'm having difficulties. Although I've been told by at least one person that once it hits the second half (I'm almost to the halfway point), the shiz hits the fan and it goes fast.

The saving grace for me at the moment? DILANDAU. HOLY FRIGGIN' CRAP. I LOVE THAT GUY. Seriously, I don't know if it's the blatant psychosis or the pyromania or what, but he wanders onto the screen and smacks somebody, and I am suddenly full engrossed. And this is where I prove that I'm probably in a minority here because I tend to like a really awesome bad guy. And he is a very awesome bad guy.

Also, vocally speaking, Dilandau equals Conan. Minami voiced/voices both of them. Color me godsmacked, if only because gobsmacked is a delightful word and I really must use it more often in my daily conversation.

And if there is not an icon in existence with Dilandau on it and the text "Fire is pretty," there should be.

DILANDAU~! <3 The ONLY could part of Escaflowne.
I don't think it's a terrible series but it's honestly not THAT good. And definitely not as good as the fan base seems to make it out to be.

I've been told that it does pick up a LOT in the second half. And I am curious as to what happens with the characters, so I'm going to see it through to the end! *VICTORY POSE* And then I'll be able to make an actual judgment. For right now, it's just calling 'em as I sees 'em.

Wooot!! Good job on the soda *wisenods* soda is the ebil (not that i didn't get terrible about it during break) but diet or normal they say soda is the sin that kills diets and health *wisenods* tea tho is good and healthy and awesome (or if you like something sweeter and still bubbly? Try sparkling water with half or more of juice or stuff... I found you slowly grow to beable to put less and less sweet and the waters got no calories but still gives bubbly happiness that you miss in soda)

Mebbie I'll start tracking too XD I've been thinking 'bout starting a separate journal for myself... but I'd be too lazy to open both so I suppose... (or keeping one by slef but again too lazy and cheap to go buy new journal)

Good luck with it! And Escaflowne XP <---totally voted DN Angel XD tho i do like what i've seen of Escaflowne

...I'm finishing this bottle so it's off my desk and out of my sight and does not tempt me any further. I'm planning to keep tea around because it has caffeine, and so long as I can keep myself out of the claws of withdrawal, I will be a happy girl.

That's a good idea with the juice! *makes note*

I don't want to make a separate journal for it. I figure just little notes here in my usual boring posts is enough to keep me going. And having encouraging friends like all of you is really helpful ♥

I'll either be watching DNAngel or Abenobashi next. Might just do Abenobashi because it's thirteen episodes long, so I can knock it out in just a couple of days *laugh*

It is awesome how Minami does both Dilandu and Conan. They are so different. Imagine them meeting. ^_^

Giving up soda is hard (I live in Texas, if I called it pop like I used to, I'd get funny looks). I've done it before. Caffine withdrawl migraines aren't fun.

I know! I've been trying to figure it out. Wonder how Dilandau would respond to being hit with a tranquilizer dart...bet one of those poor underlings gets smacked in the face ^^;;

I'm in the Midwest, so pop is the norm xD But I've gone cold turkey from pop, and I agree on the migraines ;o; But it's just usually for a short period of time, a week or two. Not three months. But that's why I'm going to switch to tea. I can get brands with caffeine in it, and that should be enough to stave off withdrawal.

It's worth a crack-fic if you get the idea together.

Well, I grew up in North Dakota and I called it 'pop' until I moved to Texas. The genereal trend here is to call all carbonated beverages 'coke' unless it is a Dr. Pepper (Dr. Pepper being from Texas, that makes sense). I refuse to call a drink a 'coke' if it isn't a Coke. So, I call it all soda as a compromise.

I've lived in Iowa for almost as long as I can remember, so for me? It's always been pop XD But if I go other places, I usually try to remember to call it soda.

I really find it odd how people cannot comprehend how some of us just don't care about getting married. It's such a priority for some people and I really don't know why o_O. But yeah, that story made me LOL XD.

I know. But that might be the same reason why I don't really celebrate Valentine's Day. Dating, marriage, and all the things that go with them are not on my priority list. But eh, centuries of tradition are against us~

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day because it's a commercial creation by the card, candy, jewelry, and floral companies to make tons of money. Hence my name for it XD

...Eh, from what you're saying I'd probably latch onto the pyromaniac and ask which episodes he's in and only watch those XD

I'm horrible at math, but I love Numb3rs. Such a good show.

A bunch of people rec'd it, and it was one of those that everyone had seen. A classic. So when my favorite website advertised it as a Christmas deal for dirt-cheap, I thought, "Eh, what the heck?"

o_O Crazy coworker is crazy.

No pressure to like Escaflowne here :3 I mean, I enjoyed it, but I haven't seen it in yeeeaaars, and there's plenty I don't enjoy that everyone else seems to. Though if you feel the need to redeem it in any way, console yourself in the fact that at least you aren't watching the "As Aired By Fox Kids" version, which mutilated episodes in much the same way as Cardcaptors did CCS.

She sounds like a real Nice Girl (TM) >_O

As to Haruhi, which order are you watching it in? Some people have issues with the episode order and like it better watching it chronologically than as aired. (Though I'm mostly encouraging you to follow through on that for at least the island mystery one, 'cuz Koizumi totally does this Edgeworth impression towards the end of it. Heck, you could skip to the last five/ten minutes of it and just watch that for all I care!)

Now that I think about it, Escaflowne may be a little on the melodramatic side for you, what with all the soap-operatic elements. Angelic Layer and then DNAngel would probably be my next choices to make you watch, if you decide to duck out of Esca.

I have a copy of one of the dub VHS tapes which I have vowed to smash in the event that I one day cannot contain my rage. Thankfully, I have not yet gotten to the point where I need it, but that day may still come...!

She's not a bad person, per se. It's just that most of the time I don't think she's paying attention to what's coming out of her mouth. Or she has this image of how things should be (...or what customers want), and she gets mad if that's challenged. I dunno...

I started with volume one. Absolutely despising the main/titular character does not make one want to watch much more of a series. And the scene with the computer guys? Nail in the coffin. But I have seen the Ace Attorney parody on YouTube. That was funny, but more because I like Phoenix Wright XD

Eh, it doesn't really feel all that melodramatic to me *shrug* Just sort of sluggish, for lack of a better word. Even though if I really look at it, it's clipping along.

Dilandau is batshit fucking insane. And Escaflowne is awesome, amazing, but it MIND FUCKS YOU SO TOTALLY at the halfway point. Srsly. I got into it when FOX started airing it and then ended up buying the tapes when they dropped it. There's a reason why.

RE Crazy Work Lady: Do what I did when I had a (very very VERY) older customer hit on me and tell her you're gay. ;) Okay, maybe not to the coworker if you're not at least bi, but the guy's face was priceless and I got a "I'm really fond of you people" out of him.

And watch out for the sweet tea if you're into that. Less sugar than a Coke, but still sugary.

...well, when I tried to tell her I wasn't interested in dating, I got as far as "I'm not interested in--" and she cuts me off and goes "Men? I see..." And while that's half-true (to be fair) I was like "LAKDLAFJSDLKFJ;ASLD"

Nope! I'm a regular ol' tea kinda gal. Non-sweetened all the way :D

I can say that when I saw it I was left with a very... "Was I just mugged by an anime?!" feeling. It's sorta like someone carjacked you halfway through and then left you on the side of the road, perfectly fine, mind, but they talked about buttons the whole time. Or something.

*sigh* Meddlesome. Is she, by any chance, one of those ladies that owns about eighty cats and, like, dresses them up for tea parties? Or has kids that no longer live with her? Because it sounds like she's trying to transfer some pent-up mothering instinct onto you.

I hope you do, it's not as hard as you think to give it up, especially since you drink tea/coffee anyway so you won't -exactly- be getting less caffine, try cutting the amount of sugar you put in those two drinks too. I think it's something about how -easily- liquid is absorbed into the bloodstream why what you drink is so important. I don't remember much about biology thoug, never went to any classes in it /swt

and seriously! people setting other people up for dates when they havn't mentioned they like the other is just.. woah creepy much? if worst comes to worst just say you -have- a boyfriend and his moved away for a short time or something xP lieing about being in a relationship = easiest way to avoid being in one! well short-term anyway, and not exactly the "best" choice.

And personally, as much as I enjoyed some of the esca-anime (and I agree, alot of the parts with dilandau where some of my favorate parts too) I did enjoy the manga better, even if the only thing the same is the main characters (with personality overhalls) and the mech (but even piloting it is different)

Dilandau is scary in both but vastly different. In the anime for his plain insanity and violent nature, while in the manga it's more.. creepy and stalker-ish, striking from nowhere and being frightfully powerful. Either way, without him as an antagonist the story would be alot... well, duller.
That and the other difference is that the anime-one is more like a shouta-boy, while the manga-one is like this black-bishie in design.

I've gone cold turkey from pop before. It's just that before it was for a week or so, rather than three months. That's what's making it a bit daunting. But the reason I'm keeping coffee and tea is because I do need some caffeine in my system, or else I become the Creature from the Withdrawal Migraine Lagoon.

I really don't care to be set up with anyone. On some level, I appreciate what she was trying to do, but...dude. Not interested XD Plus, if I said I was in a relationship, she'd crow it to everyone in earshot and then demand that I bring him in, and I would never hear the end of it ^^;;

I think I paged through a manga volume once, but it was a long time ago. I don't remember it all that well. Maybe I'll give it a read after I finish the anime!

One- Dilandau is pure, unutterable crack, and anyone who loves crack loves him. :)

Two- If you have a Wal-Mart, you might want to try their Clear American flavored sparkling water. I drink a lot of it when I'm trying to cut down on soda. There are a bunch of flavors, and it's very cheap. 50 cents for a liter.

Three- You might wish to inform said crazy co-worker, as nicely and politely as you can, that what she's doing could be interpreted as sexual harassment, and while you, of course, would not report her for such, she might wish to be VERY CAREFUL in the future...

Ick, someone trying to set other people up just irritates me. I wish I could offer some help, but normally I just ignore people like that. Helps that I grew up around family that thinks they need to be connected to someone to be happy to build up barriers like that, and laughing when I see it happening on shows (people trying to pair themselves and others) helps to bring the humor out.

It's just a curse of the society we live in. I suppose looking at the flip side of it, that's probably why the divorce rate is so high.
