I had to share these :D
Apr. 13th, 2009 04:17 pmWe're getting ready to have a garage sale...probably in a couple of months. And part of that has entailed us cleaning out the attic. There's some stuff up there that we've had forever. Some of it is older than me. Oh, we're not getting rid of everything, but...well, we've found some interesting stuff. And also a metric ton of dust.
One thing we found when we opened one box was an award my dad had received when he was on recruiting duty for the Marines, for recruiting fifteen new Marines in a three-month period. Dad looked really surprised when we showed it to him. I bet he'd forgotten about that.
Mom and Dad went through most of the stuff yesterday while I was at work. So when I came home, there were a couple of new faces sitting in our living room to protect it from demons or something to that effect. I thought I'd introduce them to you guys~

Shisa statues! My dad got them when he was stationed in Japan a really long time ago--I think he was stationed in Okinawa, where these are really common around houses and temples to keep evil forces at bay.
Since Dad didn't retire from the service until I was around a year old or so, and he was stationed out there before I was born, I think that these are at least a quarter of a century old. I also think they're all sorts of awesome :D
Otherwise, I alluded to the fact that something potentially good was happening. Here it is: I have an interview tomorrow. I'm not going to give any further details, except to say that if this goes well, and I get this job (I really want it), it has the potential to be something really, really good.
So hopefully I'll have some good news to post for you sometime in the next few days ^_^
