“It’s a cemetary!” Tomo said dramatically, flinging out one hand to point to the scenary that lay across the street from the car; they had stopped at a red light. “A cemetary! A cemetary!”

“We get it,” Yomi said flatly. “What’s your point?” Meanwhile, Osaka and Chiyo looked on curiously, and Nyamo (who had been good enough to offer them a ride and was thus sitting in the driver’s seat) smiled and said nothing, but merely listened.

“Don’t you know anything?” Tomo said with all the imperial attitude of a queen addressing some lowly peon. “There are ghosts in cemetaries!”

“G-ghosts?” Chiyo gasped and clutched at Osaka’s arm.

Osaka had gone about two shades paler. “Whaddya mean, ghosts?”

This time Tomo shook her head. “I mean that the spirits of the dead like to hang around in cemetaries. And if you’re not careful, you could breathe one in.” She nodded. “The only way to avoid breathing in a ghost is to hold your breath until you’ve passed the cemetary.”

The light ahead changed to green, and Nyamo pressed the gas.

Chiyo let out a squawk and quickly inhaled, pursing her lips together and puffing out her cheeks to hold in a big breath of air. Osaka did more or less the same (but without so much puffing of the cheeks), and the two held onto each other. Tomo egged them on with cries of, “Hurry! Hurry!” before echoing them and taking a breath to hold herself.

Riding shotgun, Yomi rolled her eyes.

They went another block, placing them squarely in front of the cemetary—and then Nyamo stopped the car again as warning lights went on and a red and white striped arm lowered in front of the vehicle. “Uh-oh,” the teacher said. “Looks like we’ve got to wait for a train.

The bug-eyed looks on the reddened faces of the three girls in the backseat was good enough that Yomi wished she had a camera. Her money was on Osaka giving up first. Then Chiyo, and Tomo…

Eh, Tomo would probably go until she blacked out. But at least it would be quiet for a while.

"Edgeworth? What are you reading?"

Miles didn't move; his gaze remained firmly on the computer screen in front of him. He was scrolling down line after line of black text on a white background, sprinkled intermittently with blue rectangles and little square pictures. “It’s called a kink meme.”

“A what meme?”

“People post a request, and other people write them stories.”

“…why are you reading that?”

“It resembles a train wreck, Wright. Horrific to behold, yet I cannot look away.” There was a break in the conversation as Miles scrolled down another request, oddly similar to the previous five. Finally, his facial expression changed into a grimace. “Good heavens, is there no shame in this world?”

Phoenix made a questioning noise.

“There seems to be a fixation with this practice referred to as ‘Gavincest,’ centered around the two Gavin brothers doing nigh unspeakable things,” Miles said. “It’s run rampant.” Finally, he sat back in his chair and shook his head. “So much Gavincest. It makes me want to swear off men forever.”

Behind him, there was a loud thud.

A moment later, Trucy’s voice piped up. “Uncle Miles? Why is Daddy unconcious?”

Pretty, Pretty Princess

Date: 2009-05-03 11:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] candy--chan.livejournal.com
Having friends over to play was an essential part of growing up, and Nakamori Aoko was no exception. Hence, the invitations extended to several of the other little girls in her class to come over to her house and play for a while one Sunday afternoon.

They played many of the games that little girls will play, as well as some that many little girls do not play (Aoko quietly hoped that her father would not get too upset about the state of the garden and the dirt on the floor), and now they were sitting on the floor in the living room playing a board game.

Aoko was still a bit leery, though. When she had mentioned this afternoon play date to Kaito, he had gotten that look about him. She knew that look. It rarely boded anything good for her. Even in the short time she had known him, she had seen that look quite a few times. It meant that he was planning something.

But he hadn’t shown up to make trouble for her yet. So either he had decided to not screw things up for her (unlikely), or he just hadn’t shown up to do it yet (very likely).

After a few rounds of things like Sorry and a few card games, they found the Pretty Pretty Princess box on the shelf in the closet. Being at an age when becoming a princess was still a very valid dream, they opted to play it immediately.

But upon opening the box, they made a rather startling discovery. Namely, all the rings and necklaces and pieces of jewelry that were supposed to be part of the game were missing.

Aoko was confused. The jewelry pieces had all been there the last time she had played this game. She remembered how silly her father had looked in the crown (he was a good dad). So where in the world had they gone?

Shrugging it off, they found another game to play.

It wasn’t until the next day that Aoko got her answer. She walked to school with Kaito, as usual, but said nothing about the odd disappearance of the jewelry from the board game. Kaito, for his part, was acting much his normal self. In other words, teasing her mercilessly about anything and everything he could think of. And she snapped back.

Morning ritual and all.

At school, she slipped her shoes off to put them away in her locker. It was there that she got a big surprise. Either her locker had decided to rob a vending machine, or someone else had been in there.

For sitting in the locker, laid out on top of her school shoes in a surprisingly tasteful display, were all the colored jewelry pieces from her game. The earrings were taped to the sides of the locker, and the crown took pride of place in the very center.

Aoko stared. How in the world had that—

But then she realized that she didn’t really have to ask. She knew.

Especially when Kaito peered over her shoulder and made a comment about the prettiest princess at the party, and Aoko grabbed one of her school shoes and proceeded to commit attempted murder with it.

I don't blame you, and I think you might have given me a fic title :D But yeah, just FYI, this started out bland, and wound up cracked because I couldn't decide who should win the case ^^;;

Another day, another battle in court.

Kisaki Eri was accustomed to this by now. She certainly had not earned her reputation as one of Japan’s top defense attornies by sitting at home doing nothing, after all. And she had found that her reputation did tend to precede her. Prosecutors were quite easily intimidated by the right person, it seemed.

Still, she had heard that she was facing a new person today. Her secretary had told her about it. It seemed that this prosecutor was new to the local office, coming to them all the way from Germany. She (for it seemed that it was a she) was said to have quite a reputation of her own. And a few further inquiries told her that while this person (no one seemed to have a name!) had come to face a specific person, but was taking on some other cases during the interim.

Rumors abounded, but there were precious few pieces of solid information. And as a lawyer, Eri built her life around concrete evidence, not just hearsay. Still, the rumors themselves spoke volumes in a way. Obviously, this new person had to be something else entirely for there to even be so many rumors to begin with.

…and there was always a strange sort of something when people spoke of this new prosecutor. And after thinking about it for a while, she realized that seemed to be fear. Oddly enough, Eri found herself rather eager to meet this new prosecutor. She was the sort who enjoyed a challenge.

It was with that in mind that she came to the court on the morning of the trial and made her way to the proper courtroom. Many knew her there; she was a fairly familiar face, and she waved to those she knew, greeted acquaintances old and new. And in due time, it was time for trial

All in all, Eri was fairly sure that she had a solid case to argue on her client’s behalf. There were plenty of holes in the police evidence that she knew perfectly well she could exploit. It really only took one hole and a carefully placed wedge to wriggle an entire case in a new direction. That was the secret to winning cases, after all.

Eri greeted her client and went over a few case notes one final time before things got underway. And as she was glancing back over her notes, the prosecutor entered and took her place at the bench on the opposite side of the courtroom. Eri got her first look at this infamous person.

A woman, as she had earlier learned. Surprisingly young; Eri could have easily believed that this person was no older than Eri’s own seventeen year old daughter, Ran. Silver hair. Serious expression. Interesting choice of clothing. Whip—

Wait, a whip?

Few things could make Eri do a double take. But seeing a prosecutor set what looked for all the world like a bull whip on the prosecutor’s bench definitely made that short list. What in the world would a lawyer possibly need with such a thing?

The prosecutor did not seem to be paying much attention to her, which suited Eri just fine. Shaking it off, she went back to her own notes until the judge entered. The usual proceedings for that were completed, opening comments were made by the judge, and everyone took their places. Now she finally had a chance to introduce herself to this newcomer.

“I don’t believe we’ve met,” Eri said. “My name is Kisaki Eri.”

“Franziska von Karma,” the young woman replied with a tiny bob of the head. “Prosecuting prodigy.”

“Prodigy?”

“I prosecuted my first case at thirteen. Since then, I have never lost a case,” Franziska von Karma said. “I came here to face Phoenix Wright, but this will do nicely as a warm-up.”

Eri raised an eyebrow, now convinced that her first impression was correct, that this young woman was around Ran’s age. “I must inform you, then, that I have also never lost a case, Prosecutor.”

She felt strangely rewarded when one silver-blue eyebrow arched in visible surprise. “I see.”

And this as well.

“Open up for the choo choo!”

Miles glared at his rival, sitting across the table from him with that god-awful stupid grin on his face, holding a spoon out to him. “I beg your pardon?”

“Come on, Miles, you’ve barely eaten anything. So I’m going to help,” Phoenix cheered, holding the food filled spoon out again. “So come on, open up for the choo choo!” As he spoke, he sort of bounced the spoon towards Miles and started making train noises.

“Wright,” Miles said in his best Demon Prosecutor Voice, “I most certainly will not.”

“Please?”

…oh great, now Wright was making those damnable puppy dog eyes at him.

“…fine. But only once,” Miles gave in. It was easier than listening to Phoenix whine, he told himself. And he willing opened his mouth for the spoonful of scrambled eggs—not his idea of an ideal breakfast, to be sure, but edible enough.

To say Phoenix looked amused was an understatement, especially as he scooped up another bite. “Now open for the plane!” He started swooping the spoon around and make puttering noises (that were probably supposed to resemble an airplane motor), but he didn’t get much further than that before Miles grabbed the spoon.

“I can feed myself, thank you very much.”

C is for Cowboy, Kaito and Aoko (Magic Kaito)

This will have a title eventually...

Date: 2009-04-21 02:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] candy--chan.livejournal.com
When Aoko had agreed to forgive Kaito, she had done so under very specific rules. Number one, she was doing so mostly for the reason that he had saved her father’s life, and she felt she owed him. Number two, that did not mean she liked what he had done.

Number three, “don’t call me, I’ll call you.”

It was for that last reason in particular that she found herself here, now, with this rather interesting young gentleman who had been so kind as to take an interest in her. A romantic interest, no less! So when he had asked her here, she had felt almost giddy when she accepted.

…of course, in the veeeeeery back of her mind, she was sort of hoping that somehow, it would make Kaito a little bit jealous. And she had mentioned it when she knew he was within earshot, so he did know. But at the same time, she figured that was ridiculous. Still, it was worth a try. She wanted him to suffer a little. But not too much. She was too nice of a person to actually want him to feel pain or anything like that. So that was her reasoning.

Still, she couldn’t help but feel that maybe she had made the wrong decision. The fact that her date had come to pick her up wearing a cowboy hat should have been her first tipoff, but she had not been quick enough to pick up on that little clue.

And now here she was. Her eyes were as glazed as donuts, and she was having to actually fight to keep them from rolling back into her head far enough to displace what was left of her brain.

Her date, meanwhile, was finishing up his lecture. Err, story. His story. His very long story. “…and that’s why I love aerodynamic engineering,” he concluded with a big smile.

For a very long moment, Aoko couldn’t believe it. He was done? It was over? He wasn’t going to talk anymore for a second or three? Really truly honest to cake? She wanted to sing. Instead she managed to pull up something that she hoped looked enough like a smile to be convincing, and said, “Wow. What a, heh, long story.”

He seemed perfectly content with that response. “But my real passion is golf…” And with that, he dove head-first into another monologue proclaiming the glory of the green and masterpiece-like splendor that was Caddyshack.

Aoko suddenly wished she were somewhere else. Like a convention of electric eels. Or a cactus farm. Or helping Kaitou Kid with a heist. Anywhere was preferable to this. Maybe once the food arrived, she could get a word in edgewise, though she wasn’t holding out much hope.

As if by some answer to her unvoiced prayers, a digital song began playing, interrupting the flow of words coming out of the man across the table from her, just as Aoko was starting to become convinced that the man was a master of circular breathing. He stopped, looked at his phone, and dipped his head in sheepish embarassment. “I, err, need to take this.” He rose from the table, throwing her an admittedly charming smile. “I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

As he left, Aoko found herself surrounded by an odd sound. Namely, silence. Was a beautiful noise it was, silence. Well, silence tempered by the conversation of the other diners around her.

She sighed. How was she going to make it to the end of this date with her sanity (and her eardrums) intact? That dinner fork was starting to look mighty tempting…

A computerized tune made her jump. This time it was her own cell phone ringing in her purse. She quickly fished it out, silently wishing that whoever was calling her had waited a few more minutes until her long-winded date came back, so she would have an excuse to leave the table for a while.

Without even bothering to look at the caller ID, she flipped the phone open and put it to her ear. She was just that desperate for some sort of actual stimulation. “Hello?”

“Are you having fun?”

…just when she thought her night couldn’t get much worse, he had to call in that aggravatingly smug voice of his. “Kaito!” she dropped her voice down to an angry whisper. “What are you doing?”

“Just wanted to check on you.”

“It’s not appreciated, thank you very much. I’m having a fine time,” she said haughtily. Or at least as haughtily as one can speak when one is merrily lying through one’s teeth.
