Discworld is marvelous. There is a marked change a little ways into the series in tone... it goes from fantasy parody to social satire. Gets a bit darker while still being HILARIOUS. I can't recommend them enough.

The fascinating thing with Discworld is that it's got several "storylines" where we follow a certain character or group of characters, and then it's got stand-alones. ... And then it's got ones where it follows secondary characters from a previous novel, but it's not actually a SERIES per se... There's a lot of variety in one book series.

That's character designs and generic plot elements that a lot of things have in common! I mean get down to the specifics of who each of them are. Edgeworth is nothing like Gary, and Ash is no where near sarcastic or inner-monologuing enough for to be like Phoenix!
