Not quite according to plan...
Sep. 3rd, 2009 09:28 pmSo we had a storm last night. It went on pretty much all night. I know this because while some parts are a bit fuzzy, I'm ninety-nine percent sure that I was awake more than I was asleep. Worst case of insomnia I've had in a very long time.
Then I worked today. Ten to six-thirty. One pharmacist, three techs. So Tech #1 was on the computer, entering in prescriptions as fast as she could, Tech #2 was counting like a madwoman, and then there's me...putting up the order, waiting on two registers, grabbing things for people, pulling drugs, putting stuff away, and generally running around like a chicken who has recently become separated from its HEAD.
Tech #1's husband was nice enough to bring McDonald's for all of us. Usually a day shift is scheduled to run for eight and a half hours. We get two paid fifteen-minute breaks, and then clock out for the half-hour lunch. None of us got breaks or lunch or anything. My entire food intake of today consisted of a handful of cold fries, a lukewarm cheeseburger, and two (admittedly tasty) cookies. I felt really bad about the food. It was so nice of him to bring it for us...
And we all wound up staying late, which is usually a semi-no-no. But yeah, between not taking a lunch and not getting out of there until half an hour past my technical clock-out time, I added over an hour to my paycheck. Which I admit is delicious, but for the last hour it was like all my energy had drained out through my feet. I have been warned that I will probably not leave work on time for the rest of the year--which is fine by me.
Over nine straight hours on my feet. Yes. Exhausted Candy is exhausted and should sleep beautifully soundly tonight, and will be catching up on comments tomorrow. And I just collapsed on
