PLZ TO BE GIVING ME RECS?
Nov. 19th, 2009 03:09 pmFirst, a humorous antecdote from work.
ME: Okay. You take the garbage back, and I'll attack the floor.
COWORKER: ...aww, don't attack the floor.
ME: It looked at me funny.
...I was proud of myself. I don't usually think that fast :3c
L'anyhoodle, in a couple of weeks I shall be taking my pharmacy tech certification test, the reason for my absence from the interwebs--even had to skip out on NaNo and most of
autumnwrite for it. And it is my intention to then catch back up on all my fannish activities, because I miss them very very muchly.
I do already know a few things that I'm going to do/work on: Song of the Wind (MKR), the sequel to A Perfect Act (DC/MK), and finishing That Darn Fic over on the Layton meme, like...a year after I started it XD And some stuff for
100fandomhell because I has ideas, oh yes I do. I also have some maintenance stuff I want to get done on
candyfics, but that can wait.
So! I would like some RECS! Movie, TV show, anime/manga, book, cartoon, whatever! I just want some new stuff to watch and/or read when this whole stupid test is over and done with :D I like just about everything, so lay it on me pleeeeeeeeease? Let us share fannish interests!
*sits back to count how many times Doctor Who appears in comments because I know at least two, if not three of you are going to recommend it here* I had a really awesome review for What You Wish For on ff-dot-net that explained to me why I should watch that show. That was a fun review to read :D

Date: 2009-11-19 09:15 pm (UTC)Movie: Star Trek is coming out on DVD. If you've not seen it, put it on your list (I think you have, though?)
Anime: Ghost Hunt. Because it's just a darn-good supernatural series.
Manga: Skip Beat! if I haven't gotten you into that yet.

Date: 2009-11-19 09:30 pm (UTC)Movie: I actually have not seen Star Trek. (In any incarnation, actually.) *puts on list that I actually did just start for this purpose, whee!*
Anime: I love Ghost Hunt! The Urado story-arc actually gave me nightmares. That's what I get for watching it at night in a dark apartment whilst living on my own. Whoops ^^;;
Manga: ...I think I downloaded that a while back, but never got around to reading it. You are a bad influence, and I adore you for it, love ^_~

Date: 2009-11-19 09:48 pm (UTC)Movie: The new movie is a good starter for a newbie.
Anime: How about Ayatsuri Sakon, then? It's another supernatural mystery series.
Manga: READ READ READ. And yes, I am a bad influence, but you'll just have to cope.

Date: 2009-11-19 10:56 pm (UTC)Movie: I will give it a look first chance I get! Maybe it will be on one of the movie channels soon... *readies the DVR*
Anime: YAY! *scurries to look it up*
Manga: I will, I will! I will also plot to find something new to hook you on. One day I will manage it!

Date: 2009-11-20 03:12 am (UTC)Then suddenly you realise that there are HUGE GIANT STORY ARCS. Where the plot twists and turns and ties together and does a masterful job of doing so.
Because -everyone-, without fail, grows up and develops. It's pretty good.
-Sean got me watching it, I was very leery at first because I'd seen an episode or two and wasn't impressed. Then started noticing the plot arcs and whoa. I'm watching over his shoulder every week when he gets the newest one. ^^;;

Date: 2009-11-20 01:44 am (UTC)And actually, I've seen two episodes of Glee here so far and I think I like it, so I recommend that too! Lie To Me seems pretty interesting, too.
For anime/manga, I say FMA. Just cause XD

Date: 2009-11-20 02:34 am (UTC)<3 Count me in for the one of the Doctor Who recs. YOU KNEW THAT WAS COMING.
Also, early!House M.D., like, seasons 1 & 2. (Newer eps are pretty much shite. :\) Seconding Monk because I enjoy that as well.
Ummmm. Full Moon wo Sagashite for anime. Cute, and shoujo, but if you can get past that, it's really awesome. I really enjoyed it. Mushishi because you would totally love that shit. For srs <3
Manga: Alice 19th, Love Hina (not the anime because it sucks comparatively), anddd Kodocha.
There is probably a shit ton more, but you have enough on your plate by now. :3
Also. TWEWYTWEWYTWEWYTWEWY TWEWYYY

Date: 2009-11-20 02:46 am (UTC)His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik (Temeraire book 1). Here is my one sentence summary and thoughts.
How to Train Your Dragon "by" Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, "translated by" Cressida Cowell. I haven't done my one sentence summary yet but I recommend it. There is a movie coming out based on it (losely from what I read) but it is a fun read.

Date: 2009-11-20 05:25 am (UTC)Doctor Who, Doctor Who, and Doctor Who.
Oh, did I mention Doctor Who?
Look at my icon! It is David Tennant looking hot wearing geek glasses. Do I need to say more?
It is amazing. And awesome. Start with series 1 which has the 9th doctor not David Tennant, the tenth doctor. Christopher Eccleston is just brilliant as the ninth doctor.
*whispers* Watch it. *whispers*

Date: 2009-11-20 02:49 pm (UTC)You can also read Garth Nix and his Abhorsen series. They're a bit of a dark novel type (the main type of magic is necromancy) but it's still a great read.
For manga, the only one I can really recommend is 1/2 Prince. The manga isn't nearly so great as the novel. Beware, though, the fandom is overtaken by rabid fangirls almost as scary as the Twilight fandom :(

Date: 2009-11-20 03:05 pm (UTC)TV: The only things I can think of off the top of my head are Dead Like Me and Reba *Fails at watching TV lately*. Both are wonderfully snarky.
Movie: The new Christmas Carol that's out in theaters, if you can. Just saw it yesterday. O_O HOSHYT DARK! Best sticking-to-the-book I've seen yet. With lots of creepiness. And gorgeous gorgeous animation.
Anime/manga: Can't think of many to rec off the top of my head. I've been on a Negima kick recently though. I'd suggest the manga, because the artwork in it is completely awesome. The backgrounds especially. Yes, I know that most series aren't known for that. Trust me, the detail in the backgrounds makes you drool.
Books: The Young Wizards series by Diane Duane, and her feline wizards offshoot books (there are only two, with a third coming out). For the feline ones, even though the cats ARE wizards, they are still cats. ... And I find both Urruah's obsession with Opera and Arhu's new love of pastrami hilarious. That, and Rhiow's and Saash's general opinion of the obsession toms have with singing. Their way of putting it (paraphrased): At a certain time it's irresistable, because it speaks to your most immediate need. At all other times, however, you have to distance yourself quickly, before you offend them by bursting out into laughter.
Anyways, that's all from me. *Goes back to lurking*
