Hope everyone had a great Lucky Day! I actually did!

It sounds like we miiiiiight be getting wireless internet on Sunday. In which case I have every intention of getting a connector for my own computer. YAY FOR BEING A HERMIT! If this all works out, it also means that I can be online a bit more ^_~

See, Mom's taking a class online. She wants to get her degree and CPA. So my internet time becomes limited in the evenings when a lot of you lovely people are online ;o; Here's hoping that this wireless thing works! I miss you all!

In other news...my area is not flooded. Eighty-three of the ninety-nine counties in Iowa have been named disaster areas between the tornadoes and the floods. My county is one of the sixteen that is apparently still safe. I guess the Missouri River hasn't swelled that much?

Let it also be known that I've lived in this city since kindergarten, and with a couple of exceptions (such as the nice blizzard last February that shut down all of NW Iowa for a four-day weekend), bad weather tends to curve around this city. Kid you not--the radar on the Weather Channel showed the storm system. It was in a straight line down the western part of Iowa, and there was only one curve in that line--and it curved around my city. And it's not just this--it happens EVERY BLEEPIN' TIME THERE'S BAD WEATHER. It's bizarre!

Along those same lines, I have some uber-awesome plans to meet [profile] lwyn in Des Moines on Sunday and hang out for a couple of days. That...might not be happening. It sounds like they're shutting down a section of I-80 (one of the busiest highways in the state), and I saw on the national news today that they're actually evacuating downtown Des Moines because the Des Moines River is starting to pour over its banks.

I know [profile] socchan lives out in that part of the state--she's safe so far. [profile] ehrenyu? Are you doing okay? :S

And then the tornado hit those poor Scouts...a couple of those kids were from my city, or one of our suburbs/surrounding towns. My mom's workplace is actually helping to sponsor building a ramp for one of the boys at his house. He was badly hurt, and he's going to be in a wheelchair for a few months. The governor's even coming down.

...and if I can have a moment of totally selfish hometown pride, the anchor on the national news was holding up my city's newspaper with the headline about the tornado in Blencoe *pokes fingers together*

This whole situation is scary and weird. Eighty-three counties. Out of ninety-nine. I've lived in Iowa my whole life. Do we have wacked-out weather? Hell yeah. Does it get bad? Frequently. There was a tornado a couple summers ago that completely flattened a town, and last year we had the aforementioned blizzard that dumped eighteen inches of snow on us in...I think it was less than twelve hours. And there was that tornado that went through [profile] socchan's area a couple years back.

But all this happening at once? One thing after the other...it's sad. And it's scary. My uncle is out there with the Salvation Army, helping with the relief effort. Right now I guess we can just hope it recedes.

It looks like I will be back at work this summer. Good ol' Hy-Vee ^^;; I actually got a phone call from them this afternoon (courtesy of [profile] kaitodoushi asking if I'd want to come back at least temporarily. Then something was mentioned about possibly forty hours a week. Which would make my bank account absolutely SING [/selfish pragmatic brat-ness]

So I'm going in next week to talk to the personnel manager and see what we can arrange. And Kat and I will be co-workers! If we're closing together, do you know how much AWESOME that would be? We'd certainly have some good conversations, even on crappy nights ^_~

Now if only I could find a bleepin' teaching job... *sigh*

Okay, I should probably call it quits and get to bed. G'night, everyone!
