Two short letters...

Dear all South Dakota lawmakers,
Go to hell. Please stick your goddamn legislation where it belongs: either in a bonfire, or up your ass. Who the hell are you to say that most women who have gone through this "wish someone had stopped them." Fuck you.
Luvs,
~ Me
Dear all Iowa lawmakers,
Please don't follow South Dakota's example. I'm rather fond of my homestate. Don't make me hate you. Keep your laws away from me. It's not for you to judge what's right for the masses. I'm all for equal rights, and I say YES to paternal rights. So at the risk of sounding horrendously sexist, rich conservative men making laws about abortion is like taking your car to a mechanic who has never owned an automobile. Before you start crowing that I'm sexist, my father and a good number of my male friends agree with me. So to all those lovely people governing my beloved Corn State: Don't be stupid.
Kisses,
~ Me
We've all officially been packed into a handbasket, whether we want to get packed in or not. Yes, I'm pissed off about this. Anyone want to move to the moon with me?

Date: 2006-02-28 10:07 pm (UTC)Let's just say, to explain a point, that I was personally against abortion. OK, that's me... but where do I, as a mere human being, get off telling other people that they cannot have an abortion? As far as I'm concerned, someone can be personally pro-life (which indicates that other are pro-death & that's simply preposterous) yet be pro-choice. Now, if people don't want to make this religious, that's they're own opinion, but I'm gonna bring a little religion into it. I'm a human. I am not God. How can I, as a human being, go around telling people that if they have an abortion, they'll go to hell? I mean, really, is it not God who makes such judgments? Wasn't it his son who said something like "he who has no sin shall caste the first stone" (or something similar to that anyway)? OK, maybe not the best person to quote scripture, but that's ok. I really think that people need to stop making this an issue & keep laws on the books as they are. People don't have abortions because it's cool or they want to for the fun of it. Now, i don't really appreciate how some people seem to think that abortions should be used as birth control or something, but most people aren't using it like that. SO, in conclusion... keep things like they are & don't be crazy like in SD... i agree with you!! & it's kinda nice to know i have that right if i chose to use it. I don't think i would, but it's still nice to know I could if i thought i needed to!
WHOA! Long comment!

Date: 2006-03-01 12:59 am (UTC)What's even worse is these legislators probably haven't thought about the repercussions of their actions.
Ignore the huge pro-/con- abortion debate this will kick off for a moment, please, cause there's another can o' worms I want to address.
Do these people actually think outlawing _doctor-preformed_ abortions will stop women from attempting to end un-wanted pregnancy? No! It just means getting MEDICALLY SAFE abortions will end or go underground.
Women in America were having abortions before Roe v. Wade. The extremely wealthy got them illegally from doctors, the rest used things like clothes-hangers, quack-medicines, unlicensed medical students/doctors and ingesting small amounts of poison.
Which would you prefer, ladies and gents? Your female relatives having the option of reciving a highly invasive medical procedure in a sterile facility by trained personnel or using a clothes-hanger out of sheer desperation?
I apologize for the tone of this comment, Candy-chan-san. I'm normally much more even tempered and originally meant to list my evidence in a less agitated manner.

Date: 2006-03-01 02:37 pm (UTC)*reads the article again* No exceptions for rape or incest? Yesh. What's next? A return to the Middle Ages' belief that women can only concieve if she enjoyed the intercourse? Banning information on and methods of birth control?
*runs a hand through hair* I'd love the irony if one of these guys' daughters ended up telling the press that she's pro-choice and doesn't support her dad's decision at all.

Date: 2006-03-01 01:42 am (UTC)Luckily, I live in California and, other than New York, probably the least likely state to pass such an atrocity. But the fact that a lot of these states, with backwards ideals and dictatorial executions of said beliefs, could band together makes me sick.
While I personally would probably never get an abortion, under regular circumstances (that is having sex with my partner...not rape or incest), that does not mean that I would object on another woman's decision. I have no idea what her situation is and if I as another woman cannot comprehend how difficult such a decision would be there is no way some rich WASP is going to.

Date: 2006-03-01 07:58 am (UTC)The rape and incest thing is really what makes me the most angry. A woman who has been raped is already in enough emotional turmoil--why don't we just twist the knife a little deeper?? When society as a whole is only beginning to turn away from the concept that rape is the victim's fault, the new message seems to be, "It wasn't your fault that this happened to you, but you're going to live with the consequences."
Are they actually listening to the opinions of the masses? I swear I remember reading somewhere that while the majority of Americans oppose abortion later in the pregnancy (second and third trimesters), which I agree with, there's cautious support for allowing it first trimester, and expansive support for it in cases of rape, incest, and when the pregnancy would endanger the mother's life. I hate the stupid people, but they all seem to be in charge.
