candyland: (unstoppable)
I've bought more anime in the last week then in the last two years or so COMBINED.

*waits for Trigun and Cowboy Bebop to arrive*

...they were on sale. And it was my turn to be a bad influence on [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi, because she bought them too. Getting back at her for alerting me to the Soul Eater DVDs on sale. Which should be here sometime today. Well, volumes 1, 3, and 4. Volume 2 is on backorder and won't be here for a couple of weeks.

On a COMPLETELY UNRELATED NOTE, why is my stack of stuff to watch not getting shorter?

Bah.

*goes back to important boring adult-like things*
candyland: (heart)
I just...had to share this.

Today we watched through a bunch of old VHS tapes in an effort to see if there was anything on there we wanted to save and have put on DVD. Well, one of the tapes was of holiday events from 1994, according to the time-stamp on the tape. Ranging from our school holiday programs, to Thanksgiving weekend (when we put the tree up), to Dad fixing the lights, to the events of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Let me preface this with another familial tidbit - my sister, affectionately known as Bug, has this teddy bear. Her name is Holly, she wears a green and red dress, and Bug's had her for most of her life. Keep this in mind as our story progresses.

So Christmas morning of 1994. I would be nine, and my sister would be seven. We're opening presents. The whole video is hilarious, really, and did prompt my mother to say, "Wow, watching this I can see why sometimes you got so upset with your sister."

But at one point, Bug picks up a big gift-bag. She reaches in...and pulls out a teddy bear in a green and red dress. It was love at first sight. She immediately started cuddling it, and throughout the rest of the video, she keeps picking the bear up and hugging her, and at one point even starts singing to her "special bear."

Here's the real "oh my gosh" moment: when Bug started singing, my nine-year-old self on screen said, "What're you gonna name her?"

Bug's reply: "Holly."

Some sixteen years later, Holly Bear is still on my sister's bed, and is still her special bear. It just was the wow factor that of all the Christmases we've had as a family, the one Christmas we videotaped with our (then) brand-new camcorder would be the one with that awesome quintessential family moment.

We're showing it to Bug when she comes home for Easter dinner tomorrow. I think she'll enjoy it ♥

[livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi is a bad influence.

*has ordered Soul Eater, parts 1-4*

...

RAWR!

candyland: (rain sucks)
Spring is officially here.

You know how I know?

I found the first spider of the season in my bathtub when I went to take a shower.

...and it's never the small ones, either. It's always the ones half the size of your palm. Whyyyy is it always the big ones?

Also, new layout, yay! ♥ [livejournal.com profile] candy__chan
candyland: (love will find a way)
I'M SICK, WHOO. Well, sinus problems the likes of which I haven't had since I was in high school/early college, when I got sinus infections pretty much every other WEEK during cold season.

I can't breathe. This sorta sucks.

In happier news, last night I finished my first quilt. I mean top to bottom finished - picked the pattern, picked the fabrics, pieced it, got batting and backing, quilted it, and sewed the binding on. A one-hundred percent finished quilt. And I did it all by myself! *staaaares at it* :D

Speaking of which, we started our next Block-of-the-Month project. Picked up our squares on Saturday. If you scroll down on this page, it's the Tonga Rhapsody one on the right. And trust me, the picture does not do it justice. It's GORGEOUS.

We actually had fun picking 'em up. My mom and my aunt and I are all doing it, so we went together and picked it up. They were doing demos, and had something new from last time: a little charm pack that they called a "fabric insurance policy." So if you make a bad cut, you have extra fabric.

The lady in front of us responded to that idea with, "Give me three."

Anyway, after we left the store, we called my cousin, and she met us at Black Bear Diner, and the four of us ladies had a nice girl's lunch out! It was lovely!

But the lady at the quilt store who rang us up asked me where Dad was. See, Dad doesn't actually quilt, but he has a great appreciation for the art. He'll go with us and wander the store and look at the quilts they have hanging up and talk with the owners. They've grown very fond of him. So we promsied that if he was good, we'd bring the boys next time :D

Okay, I gotta get myself ready to go run errands with the Mother, after which I have SRS BSNS things to attend to. I'll have a serious post to make later, probably under f-lock. Just an update on things~

...wow, I really need to do better about keeping up here ^^;;
candyland: (headanvil)
Today I learned that you get weird looks if you're in the breakroom at work on lunch with a couple of coworkers, and you say, aloud, the following phrase:

"HOW DO I MAKE THE MOUSE MOVE SO THE TORPEDO WON'T GO OFF?"

Fortunately, they're coworkers I'm on good terms with, and so I showed them the game I was playing on my DS, and we wound up in a conversation about video game consoles and stuff. I have some awesome coworkers.

For the record, Ghost Trick fucking RULES.

Quick update for the last week~

ITEM NUMBER ONE: bachelorette parties are freakin' awesome, and I may or may not have gone bar-hopping for the first time in my life at such a party on Saturday night. Was actually having fun until the last one, where I couldn't hear the person next to me and was in constant danger of being groped by strangers. Did not get drunk, though I did wobble. Once.

ITEM NUMBER TWO: Sunday night I fell down the stairs and sprained my foot. We've lived in this house since I was in third grade, and I have walked up and down those stairs probably thousands of times. For whatever reason, Sunday night I thought I was at the bottom, went to take a long step, aaaaaaaaaand next thing I know I'm on my hands and knees on the floor, going, "Huh...I was up there a second ago." Went to the doctor - nothing broken. Just hurty \o/

ITEM NUMBER THREE: [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi, [livejournal.com profile] ammchan, and I have started a joint Skype-aided playthrough of 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors. So far it's pretty awesome and is providing us all with lots and lots of shiny entertainment in the form of commentary and references. WE ARE SO FUNNY! (And by we, I mean Amm and Kat, I usually just say dumb stuff in the hope of getting a giggle.) We've been Plurking our thoughts ^^

ITEM NUMBER THREE-POINT-FIVE: Ghost Trick RULES.

ITEM NUMBER FOUR: We can has blu-ray player \o/ Not hooked up yet, but we has one.

ITEM NUMBER FIVE: PLUNNIES. I HAVE THEM. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN EVER. (Note to self: yes, Shinichi does need to get dropped into that place, and yes, I need to both traumatize Luke AND get him drunk. But not in the same story.)

...okay. Time to knit ~_~ Soooooo tired of knitting this thing, but I gotta get it done by the twenty-sixth, since it's a wedding gift. I'M DOOOOOOOOOOMED.
candyland: (whatcha reading?)
What a weird morning. Woke up early, did a P90X workout (in an attempt to actually start my New Year's resolution, though I only did about half the workout), and about half an hour later I had to run to the bathroom because I thought I was going to be ill.

So yeah, called in sick to the pharmacy for the first time in almost two years. Go me.

Will have more later on updates in other areas - lots to report. But right now I just want to stare at the wall and will my stomach to calm down D:
candyland: (headdesk)
Yesterday, I was at work. The pharmacy where I work is in a grocery store, which also has a deli, a salad bar, a Chinese place, and a pizzeria, and a dining area for those who choose to eat there.

I walked over to the pop fountain to refill my water bottle on my way to my lunch break.

Sitting at one of the tables was one of the guys who works at my favored GameStop store. I recognized him.

...AND HE RECOGNIZED ME.

He waved, said hello, and asked how I was liking my shiny Pokemon.

...

You know you go to GameStop too often WHEN...

*w-will be there on Saturday to pick up new stuff, oh yes I will*

Almost as good as when I went in there to pick up my special edition Mario Wii game thing. I opened my mouth, and the guy said, "You're here for Mario, aren't you? I remember you!" And then we talked about Kingdom Hearts while he rang me up.

I love my local GameStop ♥
candyland: (whatcha reading?)
Oh god, work, what are you doing to me?

On Sunday, there were three of us there - two techs and a pharmacist, as is par for the weekends. Between 9:50 and about 1:45, we did 77 prescriptions. Between 1:45 and probably...3:30-ish? WE DID FOOKIN' 81 PRESCRIPTIONS. I was counting and handling the drive-through, Other Tech was handling the front counter (where she was at least six deep for the entire two hours), and Pharmacist was entering scrips in the computer and checking at the speed of light.

Afterwards, we all took a breath and double-checked everything. All was well. WE MADE IT!

I arrived on Monday, ready to start my shift at nine...only to find that the power was out. The store was running on back-up/emergency lights. Turns out there was a transformer (ROBOTS IN DISGUISE!) fire at the other end of the mall, and power was out all over the area. So electronic prescribing and the fax machine were both down, plus we were having register problems, and...GROWL.

I did get called a sweetheart about ten seconds after walking in, though, because I'm willing to organize things into baskets and other little tasks. That was kind of nice!

And then yesterday...oh god. I worked at noon-thirty. Got up, had breakfast, did some stuff. Then I got a little drowsy. Figured I'd take a quick power nap before work, so I set my phone alarm to wake me up at noon.

I opened my eyes, my bedside clock said 12:32. My phone had shut itself off.

...ever sleep on your leg weird and get a dead leg? Like, beyond pins and needles into full-on non-feeling? Yeah. I had that, and I didn't realize it until I tried to get up in a panic, and found myself on the floor. So since there is no phone reception in the basement, I crawled up the stairs on my hands and one knee to call my work. Got there twenty minutes late @_@

I'm usually early getting there (stop down, drop my stuff, grab my labcoat, etc., before I go punch in), so they let me slide with only mild teasing and questions about how my nap was *laugh*

And then we had a repeat of Sunday's stampede, but with more people working. I didn't move from the drive-through for probably an hour. Saving grace, folks. Saving grace.

And now it's time for me to head in for day seven of my seven-day stretch. FOUR DAY WEEKEND STARTS AT SEVEN O'CLOCK TONIGHT, BITCHES. I'm hoping it'll be dead so she'll let me go early. I have a couple of errands to run ;)

Ciao!

Also, I have now seen both The Last Airbender and the Twilight movie. My horror cannot be expressed in words.
candyland: (snoopy dance)
I am now a quarter of a century old.

Also, I think this means my car insurance payments should significantly decrease.

...

...god, I'm getting old if that's the thing I'm the most excited about regarding my birthday XD

But Mom and Dad gave me Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs (which I actually went with my mom to pick up, since she didn't know what it was *laugh*), and a book of quilt patterns! EEEEEE STUFF TO MAKE!

All righty, grab my purse and my jacket, and we're off to go see my sister and do a joint birthday lunch, since her birthday is on Wednesday ^_^ Gonna ride in the new Santa Fe, booyah~

Growing up is mandatory. Maturity is optional.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi and I have started Eternal Sonata. What a great movie! ...wait, you're saying it's a video game? O.O And finally, Rifftrax shows rock, and talking paper bags will haunt my nightmares for many years to come. Seriously, that was the scariest thing all night. Even scarier than the grocery witch.
candyland: (law and order)
HAPPY 30TH ANNIVERSARY, MOMMY AND DADDY! I'm very proud of you ^____^

We went to Red Lobster for dinner tonight. Give me a sec to roll myself just a little closer to the keyboard...sorry, bottomless shrimp will do that to you. Oh GAWD that scampi was to die for!

And Mom and I each had a daiquiri. When the waitress innocently asked if we wanted to get the bigger size, we said sure. What we each wound up with was something probably better consumed with a soup spoon than with a straw. That sucker was the size of a BOWL. I finished that drink. I had to. It was a matter of PRIDE o/

So tomorrow is my only free day this week. Here's the list of things I would like to accomplish:

~ Run a couple of errands (make payments, get eyebrows done)
~ Get everything together and in order for the weekend trip in the car
~ PLUNNIE PLUNNIE PLUNNIE
~ Do laundry and do some general tidying
~ Sew a bit
~ Game with Kat when she gets off work

...what will probably happen?

~ Sleep in
~ Run errands (these HAVE to get done!)
~ Play Pokemon
~ Sew (maybe)
~ Game with Kat

...do I know me or what?

Okay, for tonight, at least? I think I'm going to evolve me some Pokemon. MUST. FILL. 'DEX. BEFORE BLACK AND WHITE COME OUT @_@ (My nostalgic side, let me show you it.)
candyland: (emo)
...oh my sweet Prince Poppycock, what have you done? ;___;

Dad still thinks we should have given him all ten votes. Mom wanted to give all ten to Michael Grimm. So we wound up splitting the difference and doing five each.

Also, the YouTube comments are delightful, ranging from "I hope Piers dies slowly of throat cancer!" to "Piers' buzzing him was actually a premeditated 'dick move' because AGT doesn't want to be represented by someone so flamboyant and ambiguous. They want to be represented by unemployed chicken catchers and pretty little girls in flowered dresses."

I love YouTube. I really do.

Just please, don't let Jackie Evancho win. Her technique is terribly, she's going to destroy her voice if she doesn't get those low notes out of her throat and stop forcing her vibrato, she has yet to do anything except opera (no performance range whatsoever!), and thus far she has yet to do anything that Barbara Padilla didn't do better last season. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, CHILD, PUT YOUR ARMS DOWN FOR ONCE.

Also, I am now officially back on Lexapro (HAPPY DRUGS HAPPY DRUGS LA LA LAAAAAA~), and I have the weekend of October 9-10 off to attend my aunt and uncle's fiftieth wedding anniversary party.

And considering how often I've gotten shafted on scheduling and how little I've complained and how little I generally ask for? I feel like I should NOT have had to feel like I was fighting that hard when I did need something. But fortunately, a couple of my coworkers are awesome ^o^

And finally, Professor Layton and the Unwound Future is AMAZING and Yuri Lowenthal as Legal!Luke is divine and I literally had to close my DS and squeal when one of his puzzle-solvey animations included the dialogue, "Puzzling? I think not~" And it's also really awesome to see the two discussion threads on [livejournal.com profile] professorlayton so alive and buzzing over it.

PLAY ON!
candyland: (lurker)
Happy Lurker Day?

*may or may not be dead from the goddamn NINE-DAY WORK STRETCH that will end tomorrow and go into a three-day weekend thank you Claude*

Also, I don't know if any of you watch America's Got Talent, but...this man just might be my king PRINCE. Watch it if you like opera. Actually watch it if you don't like opera. Actually just watch it if you want hilariously awesome entertainment.

His other two auditions are here and here. Can't WAIT to see what he does in the Top Ten ^____^

Also awesome is Fighting Gravity, for something completely different.

All right, time to get ready for work. FIGHT, DAY EIGHT, FIGHT!
candyland: (livejournal icon)
I have 10 Dreamwidth invite codes sitting around. Anyone who wants/needs one, feel free to drop me a line here, and we'll see if we can hook you up 8D

Let's see...[livejournal.com profile] kaitodoushi just woke up (although I'm pretty sure we had a short conversation a couple of hours ago while she was still asleep *snickers*), and as soon as she's ready, we will start...TALES OF SYMPHONIA! *trumpet fanfare* It's her turn to wield the controller, since I played us through Persona 4 (lakjdflkajdkjfkj SO MUCH LOVE FOR THAT GAME!)

I've mentioned it before, but Kat and I do a lot of joint playthroughs. If it's a console game, we usually just take turns picking a game and playing, though we've done a few DS ones together as well. It all started back with Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations. We've been playing this way for...two years now, I think, and in that time we've finished seven games.

...I just told Kat that we've done two games in seven years. Her response: "I think we can do better than that!"

Five and a half hours until we leave for Rifftrax, WHOOOOOOO!
candyland: (makeout-tastic)
I just sneezed four five times in a row. That was fun XD

Anyway, main point of this entry is to just share something hilarious that was said at work today. The two coworkers I was working with are both married, and were discussing frustrations about their husbands. Here's what resulted...

C1: *something about throwing things at her husband*
C2: Do you actually throw things at him?
C1: Well...nothing that would actually hurt him.
C2: Like chairs. Or trees.
Me: ...trees? *pretending to lift something heavy* I told you to take out the trash!
C1: *also pretending to lift something heavy* Why aren't the dishes done?

We also had a delightful conversation about how tasty bacon is, and how peaches and bacon are not the same thing. SHUT UP IT WAS A SLOW DAY. But remember, this is the same place that actually resulted in the phrase, in context, "Monkeys are not cows."

I love my coworkers sometimes. I really do ~♥

But it can has be vacation tiemz nao!! I'm off until...a week from Monday, I think ^o^ Time to do productive things! *doesn't move until Thursday, when we're going to the Rifftrax show, w00t*

Also, one of the newest prompts on the Layton meme may or may not be attempting to eat my brain alive. Like...I've been thinking on it all day ;_; Send help?
candyland: (my bum is on fire)
Happy Lucky Day, everyone!

...this might be the first time in recent memory that the curse of Friday the 13th actually landed on my head. Suffice to say, my day at work was sort of...shiite ^^;; Just gotta make it through tomorrow, and then a week off! GLORIOUS WEEK O' VACATION YAY!

I finished making a purse, via quilting methods. It's not perfect, but for a first try, it came out pretty nice \o/ And...I've got my next quilt square cut out, and a new pattern, and I'm knitting a bunch...I'M MAKING STUFF GAIZ!

Things still to do before parents leave: go grocery shopping, do laundry, general cleaning, sleep in on Sunday.

I'm tired x_x G'night!
candyland: (word count)
So...

Anyone doing NaNo this year?

...

Yes, I'm already thinking about it XD
candyland: (laughing at you)
Wow. Why can things never be simple?

I rather enjoy not crying every night. Let's keep it that way! )

...in other news, my computer finally seems to have died. It's been trying to die for a couple of years, but yesterday I think it finally managed it. I've appropriated my mother's laptop for now, and shall try to make do. Guess we know what's going on my Christmas list, huh?

Persona 3 Portable is a thing of glory and wonder ~♥

And finally, I'm writing again. I'm sure it has something to do with the same reason I needed the meds in the first place, but in hindsight...how did I go four bleepin' months without really writing? I updated a fic a couple days ago, and it made me feel so ridiculously happy...

Yeah. I missed you, fandom. I really missed you :D

Newest on [livejournal.com profile] candyfics: No Little Plans, ch. 3 (DC/MK) (The real chapter 3, this time. I swear it. No April Fool's pranks involving Kaito/Shinichi slash and inferred smut ^___^ And yes, I'm having entirely too much with this fic!)
